M104 is my favourite galaxy!
So very photogenic with its distinct dust lane around the central bulge of stars, hanging in space like a small pendant - or a Sombrero apparently. In fact it’s composed of several hundred billion individual stars and is estimated at a diameter of 50.000 lightyears so the only reason for it appearing small is its mind-melting distance of 28 million lightyears #M104 #sombrerogalaxy #astronomy #astrophotography #deepsky #backyardastronomy #astroshots #astrophoto #Space #universe #galaxy #universetoday #nightsky #stars #galaxy #nightphotography #skywatcher #touptek #backyardastrophotography -

A new image (NASA, ESA, CSA, STScI) captured by the James Webb Space Telescope depicts the Sombrero Galaxy in infrared. The MIRI (Mid-Infrared Instrument) instrument offers details invisible to other telescopes, creating a portrait different from what astronomers are used to. The nucleus is very bright at visible light frequencies while in infrared a smooth inner disk is revealed.

Hats Off to #NASA’s Webb: #SombreroGalaxy Dazzles in New Image
#JWST’s mid-infrared view of Sombrero galax (#Messier104), signature, glowing core seen in visible-light images does not shine, instead a smooth inner disk is revealed. Sombrero galaxy produce less than one solar mass of stars per year. Even the supermassive #blackhole, also known as an active galactic nucleus, at the center of the Sombrero galaxy is rather docile, even at a hefty 9-billion-solar masses.

The Sombrero Galaxy: A Cosmic Bullseye
Discover the stunning beauty of the Sombrero Galaxy! This infrared image reveals a hidden cosmic structure, resembling a bullseye. A bright ring of dust encircles a central bulge of stars, while a warped disk and young star-forming regions add to the galaxy's complexity. At its heart lies a supermassive black hole, making this a truly captivating celestial object. 🌌

A peculiar #galaxy near M104: https://arxiv.org/abs/2308.06187 -> "Messier 104, NGC 4594, also known as the #SombreroGalaxy, has been extensively studied, especially its structure and stellar halo. [...] While studying #HST images available on the HST Legacy website of the halo of M104 (HST proposal 9714, PI: Keith Noll), the author observed at 12:40:07.829 -11:36:47.38 (in j2000) an object about 4 arcseconds in diameter. A study with VO tools suggests that the object is a SBc galaxy with AGN (Seyfert)."

The Sombrero Galaxy - New Image!
The Sombrero Galaxy, or Messier 104, is an odd galaxy, roughly 31 million light years from Earth.
This family of stars is noted for its massive brightly lit center, surrounded by dark, intricate lanes of dark dust.#astrophotography #astronomy #galaxy #M104 #SombreroGalaxy #science #space #telescopes #AmateurAstronomy #TelescopeLive
