These microphones can pick up extremely far away noise, including voices.
They are literally permanent surveillance systems that can be abused and will be abused as history has shown over and over.

One more reason for forbidding any electronic devices during school hours.

If your kids need electronic devices at shcool, those should be provided by the school in a learning context. BYOD (bring your own device) should never apply for learning environments.
