Linux systems have their own machine identifier, similar to Microsoft’s GDID.

It’s typically stored in /etc/machine-id and can be read by applications, including for telemetry.

Unlike Windows GDID, Linux machine IDs can be regenerated without reinstalling the OS.

Stable or resource‑friendly?

@ryanc @catsalad That's what I thought too. I read "success info" and immediately thought of Windows 10's compatibility telemetry. I remember people initially feared that the government and major entertainment publishers would subpoena this telemetry data for fishing expeditions.

It's good that a fraudster and extortionist got caught - assuming that's what he really is - but this is just another example of #Microsoft - as well as #Apple & #Google - handing over identifying information to #US government bodies.

With the current administration, it should be made clear that - if you have to use Windows - nuke all #telemetry. Absolutely all of it.
