During the APEC forum on Thursday, Sam Altman has been cited to having said the following thing: "Four times now in the history of OpenAI—the most recent time was just in the last couple of weeks—I’ve gotten to be in the room when we push the veil of ignorance back and the frontier of discovery forward. And getting to do that is like the professional honor of a lifetime."
That's worrying. Why?

Hey... I just realised #JohnRawls's #TheoryOfJustice sorta defends #BDSM and D/s relationships.
Basically, the beginning of the relationship is like the stage of being behind the veil of ignorance and the inequality of the relationship is justifiable not merely on #consent but also on the fact/plan/hope that it will provide a better quality of life to those (or that) at the bottom (pun intended).

'True economic justice will require a more fundamental reshaping of our economy, tackling inequality at its source, replacing our harsh & punitive benefits system with something like an unconditional basic income, and instituting new models of democracy at work'.
I'd agree, there's much to like in Rawls' central idea of policies based on the assumption of the 'veil of ignorance'!

Wonderful episode of “In Our Time” discussing John Rawls’ “A Theory of Justice”. The original position/veil of ignorance is such an incredibly elegant thought experiment. Sticking around for the extra bit is also worth it IMO.
