Sci Files: O GRANDE TRUQUE e a Mágica da Tela
Um dos melhores filmes de 2006 estreou no Brasil sem grandes alardes ou campanhas publicitárias, contando com um ótimo elenco e dirigido por um sujeito que, em uma carreira então relativamente curta, conseguira a façanha de realizar três ótimos longas – Seguinte (1998), Amnésia (2000) e Batman Begins (2005).
Falo de O Grande Truque (The Prestige), de Christopher Nolan – hoje mais conhecido por sua trilogia do Cavaleiro das Trevas e grandes produções de ficção científica como A Origem (2010), Interestelar (2014) e Tenet (2020). Esta obra, que trata do poder da ilusão, das fraquezas humanas e, na essência, dos sacrifícios que faz um artista para deslumbrar seus espectadores, ficou espremida em uma posição intermediária da filmografia de Nolan, o que a faz ser, muitas vezes, injustamente negligenciada.
Baseado num romance de Christopher Priest, roteirizado pelo próprio Nolan e seu irmão, Jonathan, O Grande Truque narra a história de dois mágicos concorrentes (Hugh Jackman e Christian Bale) que, na passagem do século 19 para o 20, após uma tragédia pessoal, tornam-se ferrenhos competidores, um tentando sabotar os truques do outro. O longa inicia com o personagem de Bale sendo condenado à morte pelo assassinato de seu rival, e a partir daí a trama se desenrola em flashbacks, porém de forma não linear e com ênfase na obsessão de Jackman em descobrir o segredo por trás do maior truque de Bale – “O Homem Transportado”.
Hugh Jackman e Andy SerkisE para não tirar a graça mais não dá para falar, exceto que o filme utiliza elementos de suspense, ficção científica e da própria mágica (não confundir com magia) – o diretor, como os ilusionistas, atrai a atenção da plateia para elementos secundários, a fim de que ela não perceba os segredos dos truques (no caso, da trama) que, muitas vezes, estão à sua frente.
Sim, pode se dizer que um bom diretor é como um mágico, com sua capacidade de maravilhar e iludir o público com sua obra – e O Grande Truque trata deste dom. O filme se passa numa época em que a eletricidade e o próprio cinema, então novidades científicas, para muitos se assemelhavam a mágicas. A fala final de Jackman é reveladora no sentido dos extremos a que chega um prestidigitador totalmente comprometido com sua arte (esteja ele fazendo mágicas num palco, ou numa tela de cinema) a fim de maravilhar o público com suas criações.
Então, se você ainda “criminosamente” não viu este filme, recomendo fortemente que o descubra. Além de Jackman em grande desempenho, de uma então bem jovem Scarlett Johansson e Andy Serkis, Nolan trouxe parte do elenco de seu Batman Begins (Bale e o sempre ótimo Michael Caine), e ninguém menos que o saudoso pop star David Bowie numa participação discreta mas essencial como Nicola Tesla. Enfim, O Grande Truque é a prova cabal de que Christopher Nolan é um mágico incapaz de fazer um filme ruim, ainda que por vezes seja de difícil compreensão. Assista. A mágica do cinema, literalmente, estará na tela à sua frente.
