Most hobbits with the spirit of daring semi-nomadic original tribes, the Fallohides, Harfoots, Stoors, etc, were eventually whittled down and only the overly cautious, uncurious-about-outside hobbits remained. They became mostly ignorant of the world outside the Shire, BUT retained the naive curiosity. That adds up to a near complete lack of savvy.
Add an over developed sense of hedonistic gastronomy, and mindless boredom-based curiosity.
You are doomed along them.

Adventurous hobbits, who ventured further than Bree, to E,were most often beset by brigands.
Even MORE adventurous hobbits, who followed the Brandywine N, and ended up around Evendin NEVER CAME BACK. The area is the remainders of Arnor, toppled by the Witch King himself. It's filled with nasty, ghastly, eerie, ghostly things that hate the living. Only a party of high-level characters would dare.
So, only the dull, boring hobbits survived to leave offspring.

200miles-ish W, the sea, Grey Havens,gulf of Lhun, impassable!!, given Hobbits are NOT particularly sea-faring (lol)
120ish miles to the N, along the Baranduin/Brandywine river, the walls of Evendin Hills. Around that E bend of their end, the Valley of Evendin,and Lake Evendin. And, nearby, the ruins of Annúminas... they are mostly empty (you WISH), except for the hoarse whistleof breeze and the mists from the lake....and occasional shrieks of wraiths, etc.

Why you should stay away from Hobbits, if you want to survive wandering around Middle Earth.
Hobbits were semi-nomadic tribes, survivors of small humanoid, originally from Central areas of the main continent or Arda. They were granted land, S of Arnor, circa 1600TA, right before Arnor was broken in three parts.
Shire is a green area with benign weather. Hobbiton is about, oh, 100-ish miles from Bree, to the East,

In fairness, there are two general attitudes towards hobbits, in the whole of Eä:
1- you ignore them
2- you despise them to any applicable degreeA hobbit in your group is *GUARANTEED* to get you in trouble, constantly pester you for attention and/or food, and unduly call attention at the worst possible moments, as well as wreak havoc out of sheer boredom and curiosity

I read a nice illustrated (by Alan Lee) hardcover version of it and I have The Lord of the Rings trilogy before me still. But first I will read the new Magic: The Gathering novel that is coming out shortly and that I have preordered. I’m very excited for it.
