  1. @johncarlosbaez I do not know, yet.
I'd love a masto gut ecologist to teach me all about it. Google is not my friend on this one (and more generally of course, more and more)

  6. Well, here's an #InOurTime episode which I *think* is not actually an April Fool but real knowledge carefully presented to make it *sound* like an April Fool. But I'm honestly not sure.

Listen to it before checking other sources and see what you think. Whatever, the people who made it had a lot of fun doing so.

  7. I don't mind a Misha as the new Melvin at all. This is good stuff.

  8. Melvyn Bragg‘s ‘In Our Time‘ has been a regular weekly highlight for decades now. I sincerely hope, it will continue to do so.

But here is a great life lesson from Melvyn himself:

“My week always finishes with a list of phone calls to family and friends. The list has diminished considerably over the past few years. I have lost so many close friends from
childhood, school, university and Cumbria. It’s a sad moment each week when I realise the number of people who are no longer here.“

  9. Listening to #InOurTime on the Time Machine, I am asking myself whether #AI #LLM users are choosing to become Eloi, are choosing to let their intellects atrophy, by delegating their creative and critical faculties to machines.

  11. Oh no! 😲 I knew this day would come, but so soon? 😰 #InOurTime is one of the best #podcasts & it just wouldn’t be the same without Melvyn Bragg 😭:

  12. "For a programme with a wholly misleading title which started from scratch with a six-month contract, it's been quite a ride!" said Lord Bragg.

  13. Who has the background to replace him? Stephen Fry? I'm blanking after that list of one! I'm sure there are others with the intellectual depth and range who could moderate discussions across all topics.

Who do you think could replace him?

  14. #inourtime #radio4 #civility Been on my mind locally #pembroke #cymru #cymraeg Is it a 'thing' ? Locals here never respond to emails in a 24 hr time frame. Frequently no reply at all. Just plain rude / arrogant / superiority gone wrong?

  15. @evan Copyright isn't an a priori concept; it's a human creation, devised to balance a reward for authoring new works with the benefit of disseminating those works. In every jurisdiction the answer to your question depends on what the specific law says.

  16. @minouette Her skills and contribution to science really come through in this #InOurTime episode about William and Caroline. As ever with IoT, an opportunity to listen in on conversation between experts in the subject. bbc.co.uk/programmes/m0011c4p

  17. I found this In Our Time episode on Lewis Carroll's Alice books strangely moving. The guests' enthusiasm for the subject has had me itching to dive back into the Annotated Alice.

  22. I found this In Our Time episode on Social Darwinism interesting, not least for the depressing revelation that Darwin himself was a Social Darwinist. I thought they could have run more with the point about Marx also being influenced by Social Darwinism but replacing the idea of conflict between individuals with conflict between classes.
