  5. Award-winning documentary 𝙐𝙣𝘽𝙧𝙤𝙠𝙚𝙣 presents the miraculous true story of the seven Weber siblings, ages 6-18, who evaded certain capture and death following their mother’s incarceration and murder at Auschwitz, and ultimately escaped Nazi Germany relying solely on their youthful bravado and the kindness of strangers.

In the film, Beth Lane, daughter of the youngest Weber sibling, embarks on a quest to retrace their steps, seeking answers to long-held questions about her family’s survival. The film is Beth Lane’s directorial debut and a very personal journey.

  8. #HolocaustRemembranceDay I am remembering Jeannine Burk who survived the Holocaust. Her father was killed at Auschwitz. I met her at the National WWII Museum in New Orleans 5 yrs ago. She said she didn't like the deep divisions in U.S. society. She said: “It's happening again... I'm scared." Jeannine Burk died in July 2020. May she rest in peace. Her memory is a blessing. #NeverAgain #InternationalHolocaustRemembranceDay Learn more about Jeannine here: ww2online.org/view/jeannine-bu

  9. I will never understand the horrors inflicted on innocents, especially by true believers.
It takes a sick mind to think a magical sky god wants you to harm other human beings.

Prisoners at concentration camps were labelled with badges as identifiers. Just as yellow stars identified Jews, gay men in concentration camps were identified with pink triangles.

After camps were liberated at the end of WWII, both East and West Germany upheld the country’s anti-gay law, and many gays remained incarcerated until the early 1970s.

The triangle was inverted in the 70s, and reclaimed as a symbol for gay rights.

  27. CW: Holocaust Remembrance Day

Today, January 27, we remember the victims of the Holocaust. It was on this day in 1945 that Auschwitz death camp was liberated. Additional death camps were freed throughout March and April.

Six million Jews (two thirds of Europe’s Jewish population) and millions of others (like Roma, disabled people, and LGBTQ people) were murdered by the Nazis. Generations continue to suffer from the trauma and loss.

May we recognize, learn, and prevent this from ever happening again. Visit the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum at www.ushmm.org for resources and to donate to the cause.
