  1. Today we mark #HolocaustMemorialDay.
We commemorate the six million Jewish people murdered during the Holocaust, as well as trans and Queer people, Roma people, disabled people and many more.

The theme for #HMD2026 is Bridging Generations. A call to action and reminder that the responsibility of remembrance doesn’t end with the survivors – it lives on through their children, their grandchildren and through all of us.

  2. Holocaust education remains urgent and timely. We are grateful to the educators who include Holocaust Education in your classrooms: to honor those whose lives were lost in the Holocaust, to honor survivors and their families, and to foster remembrance and prevention. Thank you for teaching your students about the past to help them create an inclusive present and a better future.

  6. The latest set of books now at Manchester's Wood Street Mission are 'The Swimmer of Auschwitz' by Renaud Leblond, which tells the incredible story of French Olympic swimmer Alfred Nakache.

Surviving the Holocaust, Alfred also went on to compete in the 1948 London Olympics. Equally, it was at these Olympics where the first Paralympic games were held for veterans injured during World War Two.

  7. @davepotts forgive my late response and you can find it in the St. Johns Garden just off Deansgate, and there are also other Anne Frank Tree's in Bradford and London.

Further more, you might find the ukholocaustmap.org.uk to be of interest, as it tells a number of powerful stories and provides a great resource for people here in the UK.

According to the BBC in 2015, 150 trees were grown from the original that stood outside the Anne Frank House during World War Two, and have since been planted in towns and cities around the world.
