Perhaps it is time that I do some more distro-hopping. Although I thoroughly enjoy using Linux Mint, this is the second time in the past week that I've wanted a more recent release of some of the software I use than what is in Mint's repositories. First, it was the latest version of LibreOffice. I was able to switch to the Flatpack version without issue. Now, I find myself wanting to use the latest release of wine to run some windows-only software that I use for my job.

My path have started from gentoo with emerge with later various distro hops, like OpenSuse Ubuntu Mint Debian, etc.
But deep dive Gentoo I liked the most, since it had the least issues with packages. The reason I've never came back there, is a compilation time.
I remember how I built KDE for more than 20 hours (Celeron 2.4 in early 2000s).After many years in MacOS (right now it's also a primary OS, Arch is only on a big PC), it's really confusing that many things are not available without hacks.
In MacOS Homebrew made it so simple, it's hard to accept that Linux may have so many complications with a package distributions.It looks like snap or flatpack should fix this issue, but they don't. Many things from snap don't work or do not available, flatpack the same.
Installing Homebrew in Linux does not feel right.

My issue is that the XBOX 360 (bluetooth) buttons' mapping seems to be correct on https://hardwaretester.com/gamepad but it's completely messed up in the games.
I tried to deactivate the Steam Input option but it doesn't help.

Dear https://zoom.us, I appreciate you having a #Zoom client package that works on #Linux, that's mighty nice of you as I need that software to run for me and I appreciate it being native in my chosen OS. However, if you're gonna update the software really, really, really often (like you're doing these days) could you just take that one extra step and stop making me manually download and install a .deb file for every update? You can choose from multiple other options, like a #Flatpack, or an #Aptitude compatible solution.
Not to be ungrateful, but, well, seriously...

I did check for a #Librewolf update too but there doesn't seem to be one yet. (136.02 installed.) So still stuck with problem font handling.
Also checked again to see if a #flatpack version was available, but flatpack.org still has a dodgy ssl certificate as viewed from Librewolf and doesn't show up at all in Firefox (perhaps due to scripting being off, not sure). Either way ... very far from encouraging. 🙄

I've a 17 year old low-line entertainment unit and one of the plastic supports has shorn off while I was cleaning. There is a very tiny amount of it sticking out, but not enough for me to get a grip with pliers. How can I get it out? It's a fairly tight fit, as in you would twist it slightly as you pushed it in to go in easier. I'd prefer to not have to drill a new hole. All I can think of is maybe try to glue something to it and then try to pull it out? -

I have a George story.
For those who came in late, George is our very large and very dumb house rabbit. He's a mutt, brown with one lop ear and one erect, and weighs somewhere in the neighbourhood of 8 kg - 17 pounds. We haven't weighed him in a long time, because he's not a fan of being picked up, so it's stressful.
Anyways... last night I went to give him a treat before I went to bed. He has one of those flat-packed wooden cottages that you fit together with tabs and slots, and generally overnights in it. He's generally in there some time before I go to bed.
So I got the treat, came to the cottage, and called him as usual. He was in the cottage in the opposite direction of his usual way - and even though there are entrances at both ends, he couldn't figure out how to get out... 🤣 He kept trying to turn around inside the cottage, and he's too big for that.

Trying to install #Librewolf on current #Kubuntu ... it installs fine from #extrepo but the current version (136) is a bit broken when it comes to font handling (on some sites) and it also adds about two thousand pixels of horizontal padding in a text input field. Which the recent Firefox update (135) doesn't do, so I'd like to downgrade to Librewolf 135 but don't see an option with extrepo. Tried to install #Flatpack to see if it was available there but the Flatpack site seems to be down. 😞

Yesterday we packed the car again and set off with another load of #furniture, only some of it #flatpack, and other supplies to make the #cottage in #PrestonBrook habitable.
Guess who got in #trouble when unloading the car at our destination? My #excuse is there's 30 yards of muddy #towpath to walk along to reach the cottage.

J'ai un peu peur de la qualité des paquets Snap ou Flatpack et aussi de leur lourdeur comparée aux dépôts classiques. J'ai un petit SSD sur mon portable et me disais que, pour lui, il ne vaut mieux pas que je passe à un OS atomique. Mais peut-être que je me trompe ? @jorsste ) @alainmi11 @rheinandco

1. enter #snap refresh
2. Notice that the estimated download time is about 4h
3. After two hours notice, that #snap is not joking
4. Abort #snap refresh
5. #snap remove chromium
6. Follow the instructions at https://github.com/ungoogled-software/ungoogled-chromium-debian
7. Have an update of chromium after 5 minutes.I think I'll completley abandond #ubuntu and move on to @mxlinux instead or @debian
But this is not acceptable.

Just found out that you can make #hyperlinks to distribution's #desktop #software center! When I hover this link on #Okular website, it shows:

I click it, and #AppStream-compatible #Pamac GUI opens up on my #Manjaro. My consensus is that many #download pages could make opening #package details on #Linux click-away with the help of such #link, hence faster #setup.

Est-ce que vous connaissais un #magasin d' #application qui permette de géré tous les systèmes d'app en même temp?Exemple concret : j'ai #ubunt > par défaut c'est des #snap ou des #deb mais j'ai installé aussi celui de #gnome pour géré les #flatpack via #flathub et j'ai installé aussi des #appImages a la main ( il y a un outil a installer pour géré les mises à jour il me semble ... )
