I'm playing with some new features coming in the next version of #Vivaldi (they're in the snapshot). There's some really cool stuff coming up here soon. In the Windows and Tabs panel, you can now sort by "Related", and that lets your tree go multiple tiers deep, not just the 2 from before. Also features for new users like a layout picker (kinda reminds me of #ZorinOS with this) where you can pick a layout from Vivaldi, or create, save, and easily switch between your own.

Working on upgrades on a refurbished HP EliteDesk 800 G3 mini computer.

Will be going to a local customer who requested Zorin Linux.

Upgrades:

• 16GB memory
• 1TB nvme SSD

It has an Intel 7th generation i5 processor.

Does anyone here do the "slicing" phase of 3D printing on #Linux? if so, what software do you use for it?
I'm used to #Chitubox but it only has a Windows and MacOS installer. Anyone managed to get that to work on Linux (#Ubuntu or #ZorinOS)?

Ich kenne #ZorinOS nicht.

Das hat aber nichts mit #Linux zu tun und ist wohl eher Distributions abhängig.

Mit #Debian z.B. tausche ich auch ohne neustart sogar den Kernel aus.

Und wie oft und wann es Updates macht kann eigentlich jeder selber bestimmen.

Ich mache das Grundsätzlich nur selber.

Die Menschen, die sich regelmäßig darüber echauffieren, dass #Windows häufig Updates macht und dann (selten) neu gestartet werden möchte: Warum nervt euch das bei z.B. #ZorinOS nicht? Jedesmal wenn ich die Kiste anschmeiße, weist mich #Zorin auf Updates hin und jedes zweite Mal möchte es bitte einen Neustart haben?

Mich nervt das nicht, aber es gibt viele, die genau das bei Windows bekritteln.

I'm very pleased with #ZorinOS so far. It wasn't completely without tinkering but since the tinkering has only been for the setup, I'm entertaining the thought of installing it for my mum on her Windows 11 machine.

I never liked "Software" (Gnome's generically-named package manager) back when I used Zorin. I think in the end I installed Discover, KDE's equivalent, as well as using the classic Debian tool Synaptic.

Mint (what I use now after some time in Lubuntu) no longer comes with Synaptic but it's easy enough to install. But after the initial setup, almost every new program I use in AppImage format with AM package manager. (CLI, but even I can use it! 😆)

Checking both #Zorinos and #mintOS for compatibility with my main use cases: #Homebridge and #Jellyfin. So now I wonder which has better disk management, because mount points in Ubuntu have been a nightmare for me in that regard. Trying to specify where an external disk would mount so Jellyfin could see them reliably got me into a bricked state once.
Please don’t come at me telling me editing FSTAB is “easy”. It is NOT.

I've committed the act of absolute heresy, deleted Windows from my Surface tablet and installed Zorin OS instead.

A nice surprise was that version 18 has native integration of OneDrive to file explorer, covering the last program that previously blocked my migration.

Even patching the kernel with linux-surface was super duper easy, even the Surface Pen is working! <insert surprised Pikachu meme>

Windows are still the better system for development, but a regular user shall have pretty indistinguishable experience 👍

I need a break from everything so I'm going to attempt playing #Diablo I or II tonight on #ZorinOS!

Looks like I can't install Battle.net but there is an equivalent "#Lutris" - let's see if that works...

Edit: 2h later, I managed to launch Diablo II (main) and Torment once (a gog game), with some graphics bug and can't figure out how to start them again. The semi-solution that best worked so far was to download their windows installer and then run that in Steam as a "non-steam game" with the compatibility tool Proton.

Edit 2: after looking at this tutorial I understood that 1) every game installed this way in Steam is within its own little environment, some kind of sandboxing? that replicates the structure of Windows and 2) once I've installed the game as a non-steam game I need to update the path in the game properties to where the game launcher actually is.

problem is because of the sandboxing, I can't install Diablo II LOD extension because it needs to recognise the already -installed DII.. unsure how to fix that

otherwise it seems to be working except that I get scintillating bands in all the games I've installed this way.. yes it's probably a problem of NVIDIA drivers 😓

Den #ThinkPad #T23 und #T42 gebe ich ins Recycling. Die sind quasi unbenutzbar. Der #X220 fühlt sich aber gerade mit #Linux #ZorinOS noch richtig fix an. Der kommt wieder ins Regal!

Ich habe mir letztes Jahr, als ich von Windows 11 umgestiegen bin, selbst verschiedene Distris angesehen, ohne vorher im Netz zu gucken, welche wohl für mich die beste ist.
Von Ubuntu war ich noch nie begeistert. Mint bspw. finde ich für meine Belange absolut überdimensioniert. Unter cachyOS ist meine Notizbuch-App, von der ich eine Lifetime-Version besitze, nicht gelaufen.

Schlussendlich bin ich für meinen Tower bei ZorinOS gelandet und für den Lappi bei PopOS. Beide Distris bieten mir auf den beiden Geräten das, was ich für diese haben will.
