Bueno, ya me llevé mi primer chasco (y espero que sea, también, el último) en #ZorinOS: :zorin: resulta que se me dio por desinstalar toda la familia de #tipografías #Noto (que, en mi opinión, termina siendo #bloatware dentro de #Zorin), y se me terminó cagando el sistema operativo. Bue. 🙄 Malísimo.
Para que quede el dato: anteriormente a esto, había hecho lo mismo en #Xubuntu, y quedó hermoso: la cantidad justita de tipografías que necesitaba, y no se rompió nada.
Pero, como sea, la familia de #tipografía Noto en Zorin OS es un desastre, se lo mire por donde se lo mire. Despliego la lista de tipografías en LibreOffice y puedo estar un par de vidas desplazándome por todas las variantes de Noto. Un asco,; sí, lo digo.
Me parece que #ZorinGroup tiene que ponerse las pilas y arreglar esta desprolijidad. No sé cómo, pero ciertamente no es normal; no lo vi nunca en ningún otro sistema operativo (y eso que he usado varios a lo largo de mi vida).
Ahora ya conozco el lado mañoso de Zorin.

CW: Win11 trying to lock us in, Linux, dual boot, resisting
Just watched a video on how Windows 11 can interfere with dual-boot setups in different ways, with the larger, overarching insight that Windows is doing its best to lock us in.
I feel that, as with climate change, we are at this crossroads but here with our privacy rights. The big companies want us to let go of our privacy and lock ourselves within their systems so we can be spied on in the best way, to feed us as much ads as possible and make us dependent on them (e.g. with "genAI"). Governments support this because they can use it to make us more compliant, control the information we receive and send, and easily target any "rebels".
I'm really grateful to all the people who support open source and alternative systems like Linux. But I worry that in a few decades, most of the Linux - aware people will be gone, or simply unable to work on open-source on their free time because of all the exploitation... I hope "normal people" are waking up about this and installing Linux before it's too late!
I'm personally trying to resist with the following actions:
- I have installed #ZorinOS, as dual-boot for now, on 3 computers + supported my partner with their install!
- I am asking my IT at work to install #Ubuntu (also dual-boot) on the new computers we are getting. They didn't want to install Zorin for unclear reasons, and seem to be struggling with the dual-boot installation. All of the staff is pushed towards using Windows and other MS products, including Copilot, yes, in a university!
- I am exposing my students to Linux and open source software (e.g. Python, Zotero), telling them not to use AI etc. But I am just a postdoc..
- I'm trying to figure out how we can promote Linux some more, but it's hard without the support of IT.
- are you also doing something about this (helping the world leave Windows' claws, if yes, what)?

Ziemlich sicher. Ein modifiziertes #GNOME ist natürlich weniger konsistent. Meines Wissens nach verwenden und unterstützen sie aber #DashToPanel.
Ein bezahltes Modell ist auch viel nachhaltiger, weil gerade Neuanfänger wahrscheinlich oft nicht spenden, weil sie ein proprietäres ausbeuterisches System kennen, das "das Geld schon irgendwo her bekommt".
Perfekt ist es aber sicher auch nicht. Jede Distro hat ihre Vor- und Nachteile.
Und #KDEPlasma sollte man auch nicht vergessen ;)

Die Stammbaum-Software @ahnenblatt läuft übrigens ganz hervorragend auch unter #Linux. Zumindest unter #ZorinOS ist die Installation genauso, wie unter Windows.
