My ten-year-old got his first laptop. Windows install was a nightmare, the Microsoft account nonsense meant we couldn't even get Minecraft installed after 2 hours of working on it.
Of course, I suggested we nuke the disk and install #Linux. Considered Ubuntu, Linux Mint, and then I found #Zorin.
Zorin is FANTASTIC! I've never seen such an easy to use OS. The software "shop" is outstanding. Really impressed. I'd consider it for myself if I wasn't so married to my arch btw + i3 setup. ;)

Es ist vollbracht. Ich bin privat Windows-frei. Alle meine PCs laufen nun europäisch mit dem Zorin OS.

Die Menschen, die sich regelmäßig darüber echauffieren, dass #Windows häufig Updates macht und dann (selten) neu gestartet werden möchte: Warum nervt euch das bei z.B. #ZorinOS nicht? Jedesmal wenn ich die Kiste anschmeiße, weist mich #Zorin auf Updates hin und jedes zweite Mal möchte es bitte einen Neustart haben?
Mich nervt das nicht, aber es gibt viele, die genau das bei Windows bekritteln.

Though I've been using #Linux 'almost' exclusively for the past yearish, I'd never hooked up a printer. I dug out my inkjet, then buckled in for what I assumed would be a PITA. After wasting 40 min roaming around the internet looking for drivers and such, I thought maybe I should actually check my system first. Lo and behold, #Zorin had immediately picked up the damn thing and had it ready to go the entire time. Duh. Yes, #Windows hostages, Linux really can be just as easy to use. 🙄😑

If you've been looking for a good time to try #Zorin, today's your day. Zorin 18.1 is now available, and it's just a great distribution. It's solid and stable, and has just the right amount of eye candy it looks great and will still run effectively on 10 year old hardware. And that's not even the "Lite" version! It even has built-in Windows app suggestions. It detects a .exe file is executed and recommends a Linux version or alternative. Really nice.

Habiendo testeado Ubuntu, ahora vamos por Zorin OS a ver qué tal y con cuál me termino quedando. Cualquier cosa que no sea Windows será bienvenida pero dentro de mis limitaciones, que la parte del codeo en la terminal de Ubuntu me desquició por completo! 😅 >sudo me hizo sudar jajaja (chiste nerd :P)

Anyway, I'm ready to give up on this distro. They obviously don't take Japanese users seriously, despite having a Japanese version of their site online. The main appeal for me was the similarity to the Mac OS UI, but using Zorin on another device (on which I can input Japanese easily), I found that Zorin has grown on me. Ich teste seit ein paar Wochen hin und wieder #Zorin in einer virtuellen Maschine. Eigentlich hab ich bis vor 4 Jahren viele Jahre nur #Ubuntu genutzt und bin dann aus Faulheit und Lust am Gaming wieder auf #Windows umgestiegen. Jetzt bin ich so langsam wieder bereit für #Linux. Aber leider hat mir heute ein #Kernelupdate die Maschine zerschossen. Und ich hatte gehofft, dass mir sowas erspart bleibt. Ich hab keine Lust auf #Gebastel mehr. Dafür hatte ich früher mal Interesse und Zeit.

Seriously considering dropping my last Windows 11 system in favor of Zorin OS. Who here has experience running Zorin OS for audio engineering, with or without Ubuntu Studio on top? Especially interested in experiences regarding running VST and productmanagers like Toontrack EZDrummer and EastWest/iLok on the latest Wine / Wayland on Zorin.

Ils datent de 2017 à 2019 ; en bon état, fonctionnels... réinstallés avec #Zorin OS pour les plus anciens et #Win11 pour les plus récents.
J'aimerais proposer à ma direction un don auprès d'un #asso, une #école, un organisme #éthique voire #militant qui aurait un réel besoin de ce type de matériel.

As an aside, I'd recommend Linux Mint for beginners due to its resemblance to Windows and ease of use with many built-in graphical tools. ZorinOS is also another one with an optional premium version.
For new users, unless they're more used to a MacOS-style interface, I'd actually advise to keep away from #GNOME as its interface will be confusing to (former) Windows users.
