My Analysis Of A Complete Meltdown In Wisconsin
Before the season, I thought USC would probably lose to either Penn State or Wisconsin because those were games that Lincoln Riley really struggles winning.
But never in my wildest dreams would I imagine Wisconsin would hold Riley to 7 points, the first time in his 10-year-career his team failed to score double digits.
Wisconsin had 58 yards passing and only 200 yards of offense and still won by 17 points.
It was an extraordinary result but it simply illustrated all the things I have railed against Riley for years and showed why his time has been up for a long time despite the delusional faction of pundits (mentioned below) and fanboys who support him.
I’ve never liked the offensive lines under Riley. People swore all offseason this year was great because the entire line returned intact. USC rushed for 40 yards against Wisconsin when you took away the sack yardage.
That’s unforgiveable, especially when it can’t ever convert in short-yardage situations. People love to focus on the wide receivers but good teams win by running the ball. I’ll never understand why so many are blind to this deficit.
Even when USC was playing all those cupcakes at the outset of the season, I said the Trojans’ physicality was a problem despite all the offseason claims about the strength coach improving the team.
Wisconsin gave USC a no-nonsense whipping from a physicality standpoint. Their offense pushed the pile and really gave the Trojans problems on quarterback RPO plays. Their defense was easily superior.
Games are won at the line of scrimmage and Riley can’t handle these Big 10 teams that value strength. It’s a big reason he also struggled with Notre Dame and Oregon.
Here’ the other thing: I don’t think Riley tackles enough in practice or holds physical practices. USC just looks flat-footed too many times on defense and that’s a reason why things look the same no matter who is the defensive coordinator.
That doesn’t absolve Grandpa Patterson on that touchdown play where Wisconsin had four players defended by only two USC players. He didn’t have the defense aligned and didn’t call a timeout. Of course, the head coach should have called the timeout but he’s not paying attention to the defense.
Also: Wisconsin won without even testing the shoddy pass defense!
I keep saying Jayden Maiava struggles on the road. Oregon and Nebraska last year. Last night was a disaster. He cannot handle pressure.
Then the special teams. USC hired Mike Ekeler but every game has at least one blunder on special teams.
I could go on but let’s look at the big picture.
Where’s Joel Klatt, Yogi Roth, Josh Pate, RGIII and Colin Cowherd? All they do is glaze Riley. What will they say this week? They have repeatedly embarrassed themselves with their defenses of Riley.
I’m tired of hearing Riley and others say the culture has changed. The culture has not changed! It will never change under Riley. He has none of the leadership traits of John McKay or Pete Carroll.
USC could easily lose three more games in part because Riley is not a leader of men. He never rallies the troops. He doesn’t instill any belief.
Is USC stuck with him because of his grotesque buyout?
Well, a solution would be if Baylor or TCU came calling for the Texas native. Frankly, he’s probably calling them first.
But if he gets hired elsewhere, that salary could offset his buyout.
That is our best hope to remove this fraud from a football program that is crying out for much more of a leader than him.

-------------------------------------------------TITLE: Feed recommendations are the most common way teens encounter self-harm content
An analysis of data from the 2025 OxWell Student Survey found that about a third of 11- to 18-year-old students in England had come across self-harm content online in the past month. Most of these encounters were unintentional, and about two-thirds of exposed students said the content had appeared in their social media feeds or been suggested while they were browsing. Students who were lonelier, had experienced other online harms, or had poorer mental health were more likely to report exposure. The paper was published in Nature Mental Health.
Social media has become an integral part of young people’s everyday lives. It provides wide opportunities for communication, entertainment, self-expression, and social connection. Platforms such as TikTok and Instagram offer an almost endless stream of content, much of which is selected by recommendation algorithms that personalize what users see based on their interests and online behavior.
While this personalization can help users discover content they enjoy, it can also expose them to potentially harmful material. One particular concern is content related to self-harm, which can range from personal stories of recovery and supportive discussions to graphic images and videos that portray self-injury in a positive or encouraging way.
Research suggests that repeated exposure to such content may increase emotional distress and the risk of self-harming thoughts and behaviors, particularly among vulnerable adolescents. However, the effects are not always negative, as some online communities that discuss self-harm also provide emotional support and encourage young people to seek help.
Adolescents also do not need to search for self-harm content to encounter it, as recommendation algorithms may place it in their feeds without them seeking it out. Their interactions with such content may then lead algorithms to recommend more similar material, potentially creating a cycle of repeated exposure.
Study author Holly Bear of the University of Oxford and colleagues examined how often adolescents in England reported coming across self-harm content online in the past month and the routes through which this happened. They were particularly interested in whether exposure was passive (unintentional) or active, such as searching for the content or having it shared with them, and how these different routes related to students’ demographic characteristics, social experiences, and mental health.
The researchers analyzed data from the 2025 OxWell Student Survey, a school-based survey of young people in England run by researchers at the University of Oxford. The analysis drew on 32,102 students in school years 7 through 13 (ages 11 to 18) at 49 secondary schools and further education colleges, mainly in Liverpool and Oxfordshire, who completed the survey between February and May 2025.
Students were asked whether they had come across content about self-harm on online platforms in the past month and, if so, how. They also answered questions about loneliness, bullying, online aggression and coercion, and symptoms of anxiety and depression. A total of 28,797 students answered the question about exposure, 14,083 of whom were girls.
Of these students, 9,940 (34.5%) reported encountering self-harm content online in the past month. Most of them (55%) had seen it once or twice, while 26.5% had seen it a few times and 18.5% several times.
Among exposed students who described how they came across the content, 66% said it had appeared in their feed or been suggested while they were browsing, and 24% said it was embedded within other, unrelated content. Fewer said they had accidentally encountered it (12%), searched for it (8%), or had it shared with them by someone else (8%), and 15% reported some other route.
Based on these answers, the researchers sorted students into groups. Nearly three-quarters (73%) had been exposed only through passive routes, 12% through a mix of routes, 9% only through “other” routes, 3% only by having the content shared with them, and 3% only by searching for it.
How often students saw the content depended on how they encountered it. Most students exposed only passively (59%) or only through content shared by others (62%) had seen it just once or twice in the past month, compared with about 30% of those who had only searched for it or who were exposed through a mix of routes. The authors note this is consistent with a feedback loop in which actively engaging with self-harm content leads algorithms to show more of it.
Each exposure route was associated with higher levels of loneliness, online harms, anxiety, and depression compared with students who reported no exposure, though the patterns differed across groups. Girls had higher odds than boys of passive-only exposure but lower odds of having content shared with them, and trans and gender-diverse students had elevated odds across most routes, particularly searching for the content.
Black students and students from mixed ethnic backgrounds were more likely than white students to have only searched for the content, as were students who often went to bed hungry compared with those who rarely did. Searching was most strongly linked to depression, while having content shared by others was more closely tied to receiving aggressive or threatening messages online. Students exposed through a mix of routes had some of the most pronounced risk profiles, with especially strong links to online aggression and coercion.
“Exposure to online self-harm content is widespread and shaped by distinct pathways that differ according to adolescents’ wider vulnerabilities, social environments and digital behaviors. Around one-third of our large community sample reported recent exposure, underscoring the need for interventions that account for diverse exposure experiences, from passive, algorithmically driven delivery to more intentional searches and peer sharing,” study authors concluded.
The authors call for a public health approach that combines regulation to reduce self-harm content in feeds, efforts to direct young people who search for it toward supportive resources, and digital literacy education for adolescents and their parents.
The study contributes to the scientific understanding of how adolescents encounter self-harm content online. However, it should be noted that the survey was cross-sectional, so it cannot show whether loneliness, online harms, and mental health difficulties make exposure more likely, result from exposure, or both. The researchers also did not ask what kind of self-harm content students saw, which could range from graphic material to recovery stories and peer support.
In an earlier wave of the survey, about two-thirds of students who had actively sought out self-harm content cited potentially positive motivations, such as finding support or connecting with others with similar experiences. The data were self-reported and came mainly from two regions of England, and the wording of the exposure question, which asked whether students had “come across” such content, may have led some who sought it out to underreport.
The paper, “Algorithmically driven exposure to online self-harm content and its association with broader psychosocial risk in 32,000 adolescents,” was authored by Holly Bear, Emma Soneson, Galit Geulayov, and Mina Fazel.

Mick Donnellan has had two major theatre productions hit the stage in 2025.
Outlaw Pete premiered at the Town Hall Studio, Galway in April 2025, starring Laura Hutchinson, Brian Cahill, and Carl Jones. Following its debut, the production toured to the Linenhall Arts Centre in Castlebar in May, before returning to Galway for the Galway Fringe Festival in July, where it sold out Kennedy’s Bar on Eyre Square.
Donnellan’s second new play of 2025, Class of ’57, was produced by Athlone Little Theatre and directed by Caroline Coyle, featuring standout performances from Ellen Ryan, Brian Toolan, and Nino Magilocco.
In December 2024, his most recent book Galway Blues was published to great acclaim. He received the Mayo Theatre Bursary through Mayo Arts Office in April the same year.
Prior to that, he was awarded the Agility Award through the Arts Council of Ireland and his play Nally was supported by Westmeath Arts Office.
In other theatre work, The Crucified Silence (as a short play) was chosen as part of the Scripts Ireland Play festival. After a week of intensive workshops with Playwright Eugene O’Brien, the monologue was directed by Jim Culleton (Fishamble) and performed by Aaron Monaghan. Following this, Mick took part in the Galway Theatre Development Programme, run by Andrew Flynn in conjunction with Galway’s Town Hall Theatre, which resulted in a residency at the Tyrone Guthrie Centre.
His other plays include Sunday Morning Coming Down, Shortcut to Hallelujah, Gun Metal Grey, and Velvet Revolution.

About Truman Town:
Truman Town Theatre exploded on to the theatrical circuit with their Play – Sunday Morning Coming Down. Written and directed by the company’s Artistic Director Mick Donnellan, it immediately sold out the Galway Town Hall Studio for five nights on the first run. Following that, the crew went on tour to Mayo, selling out Lisloughrey Lodge, Cong,The Valkenburg Niteclub, Ballinrobe and the Linenhall in Castlebar. It also enjoyed large audiences on the Main Stage on Galway’s Town Hall and went on a National Tour covering – Glor Ennis, St. John’s Listowel, Cork Arts Theatre and it sold out five nights at The New Theatre, Dublin. It was also performed by DRUID as a public reading during the Galway Arts Festival.
Truman Town followed this phenomenal success with a second Play – Shortcut to Hallelujah. Again, written and directed by Mick Donnellan, it deals with the curse on the Mayo football team. It sold out the Town Hall Studio, went on tour to Ballinrobe and the Linenhall in Castlebar and then down to St. John’s Theatre, Listowel Co. Kerry where it was requested back to headline Friday night of Listowel Writer’s week.
Between this, a third drama was produced as part of the Galway Theatre Festival. It was titled Gun Metal Grey.
Shortcut to Hallelujah returned from Listowel Writer’s Week to perform on the Main Stage Galway for a wildly successful five nights after which Velvet Revolution, the fourth Truman Town production, also written by Mick Donnellan, was premiered in St. John’s Theatre, Listowel. It went on tour to Kilmallock, Kenmare and Waterville, then up to Ballinrobe, on to Galway and ran for ten days as part of the Galway Fringe. Mentioned as a Highlight of the festival by the Irish times, it was subsequently performed in Campbell’s Tavern, Cloghanover, Headford, Electric Picnic and The New Theatre, Temple Bar, Dublin.
Radio Luxembourg, Mick’s fifth Play, was bought by a London Film Company (Dixon/Baxi/Evans) and has been adapted for the screen. The title for the movie version is “Tiger Raid”. Starring Brian Gleeson, Damian Molony and Sofia Boutella, it was accepted into the Tribeca film festival (New York) and was seen at Cannes and Edinburgh. Currently Mick is working on the exciting screen adaptation of Shortcut to Hallelujah with Florence Films. The screenplay is titled Sam and is based around the curse supposedly put on the Mayo Football team as they returned home as All Ireland Champions in 1951. Drenched in Irish lyricism and modern day dark humour, the script has been met with keen interest by film producers and actors throughout the industry.
Between writing projects, Mick has enjoyed roles as a lecturer in writing at University of Ireland and TUS Athlone.

Legisladores de Morena analizan relevo en el instituto.- Ante la crisis por la que atraviesa el Instituto Nacional Electoral (INE), la bancada de Morena en la Cámara de Diputados analiza la ruta para elegir a quién sustituya a la consejera presidente de ese órgano, Guadalupe Taddei, con base en lo establecido en la Constitución, aunque para arrancar el proceso se requiere su renuncia y ella dejó ayer en claro que no piensa dimitir. Legisladores consideran grave la situación, sobre todo a partir de las irregularidades detectadas por la Auditoría Superior de la Federación (ASF) y valoran aplicar el artículo 41 constitucional, referido a la facultad exclusiva de la Cámara de Diputados para elegir a la persona que ocupe la presidencia del INE y a los demás consejeros electorales.
RUBÉN IGNACIO MOREIRA VALDEZ (PRI)Llama PRI a implementar estrategia nacional contra la sobrepoblación penitenciaria.- El diputado federal del PRI, Rubén Moreira Valdez, presentó un punto de acuerdo para exhortar a la Secretaría de Seguridad y Protección Ciudadana (SSPC) y a la Conferencia Nacional del Sistema Penitenciario a implementar una estrategia para atender la sobrepoblación en las cárceles del país. El coordinador del PRI, en la Cámara de Diputados, señaló entre diciembre de 2018 y agosto de 2026 la población privada de la libertad aumentó 39.14 por ciento, mientras que la capacidad de los centros penitenciarios creció apenas 5.89 por ciento. Abusó Taddei de sus superpoderes.- En octubre de 2024, el Congreso de la Unión dio a la consejera presidente del Instituto Nacional Electoral (INE), Guadalupe Taddei, la facultad de nombrar directamente a los principales funcionarios del órgano, salvo la Secretaría Ejecutiva. Dos años después, toda la Junta General Ejecutiva (directores y titulares de unidad) han sido colocados o ratificados por ella, sin mediar negociación con sus pares, algunos de los cuales anticiparon graves daños a la colegialidad. Adelantan el aguinaldo a burócratas.- El Gobierno de la presidente Claudia Sheinbaum autorizó el pago del aguinaldo de 2026 a partir del próximo 10 de noviembre para trabajadores de la Administración Pública Federal, personal militar y determinados pensionados, con montos equivalentes a 40 días, según la categoría laboral. Hacienda deberá emitir los lineamientos específicos para determinar las bases de cálculo y las condiciones administrativas del pago, mientras que los poderes Legislativo y Judicial, así como los organismos autónomos federales, podrán tomar como referencia el decreto sin menoscabo de su autonomía. En los primeros minutos del sábado, el INE compartió un comunicado oficial de la consejera presidente Guadalupe Taddei, donde dijo aceptar con respeto a las instituciones «las investigaciones que iniciará la Auditoría Superior de la Federación (ASF) a su gestión. «La presidencia del Consejo General del INE reconoce la fortaleza de las instituciones del Estado mexicano, [por eso] recibe con respeto y la considera coherente con lo que ella misma solicitó: una auditoría a los procesos de licitación del instituto. Primero fue la misión de observación electoral de la Organización de los Estados Americanos, al desaconsejar que ese modelo se replique en otros países. Recientemente la Unión Internacional de Magistrados (UIM) aprobó la expulsión de la Comisión Nacional de Tribunales Superiores de Justicia de los Estados Unidos Mexicanos (Conatrib), por haber respaldado una reforma que atenta contra la independencia y la neutralidad política de los jueces. INFORMACIÓN DESTACADAGOBIERNOVinculan a proceso al exfiscal Jáuregui por traición a la patria.- El exfiscal de Chihuahua César Jáuregui Moreno fue vinculado la madrugada de este domingo a proceso penal, luego de que el juez de control adscrito al centro de justicia de El Altiplano, Ricardo Alfonso Santos Dorantes, determinó que el Ministerio Público aportó elementos de prueba suficientes para presumir su responsabilidad en el delito de traición a la patria. El juez también ratificó la medida cautelar de prisión preventiva justificada al exfiscal, por lo que permanecerá recluido en el penal de máxima seguridad de El Altiplano durante el tiempo que dure el proceso y hasta que se le dicte sentencia. Entra en vigor nueva Ley Catastral; se publicó en el DOF.- La Ley General para el Fortalecimiento y Armonización Catastral y Registral entró en vigor este sábado 24 de octubre, luego de que el decreto correspondiente fuera publicado el viernes en la edición vespertina del Diario Oficial de la Federación (DOF). La nueva legislación busca modernizar los catastros y registros públicos de la propiedad en México, además de facilitar el intercambio de información entre las autoridades federales, estatales y municipales. Blindan leyes contra trata de personas.- El Congreso de la Ciudad de México consolidó un nuevo cerco jurídico contra las redes delictivas dedicadas al comercio humano, luego de avalar una reforma legislativa impulsada por el Partido Verde que busca frenar la impunidad y cerrar vacíos legales en la capital. Tras el respaldo del pleno parlamentario, el líder ecologista local, Jesús Sesma Suárez, enfatizó que «ninguna persona debe ser tratada como mercancía», al tiempo que exigió dotar de herramientas reales y contundentes a las corporaciones policiacas y ministeriales encargadas de perseguir a los agresores en la capital del país. Reportan violencia 9 de cada 100 casas.- Para casi nueve de cada 100 hogares urbanos, la violencia no llegó de la calle: ya estaba dentro. Entre octubre de 2025 y septiembre de 2026, 8.6% de los hogares de las 91 áreas urbanas que mide la Encuesta Nacional de Seguridad Pública Urbana (ENSU) reportó algún tipo de violencia en el entorno familiar. Se trata de una estimación realizada por el Instituto Nacional de Geografía y Estadística (INEGI) a partir de la encuesta levantada en 27 mil 300 viviendas, cuyos resultados del tercer trimestre se dieron a conocer el pasado 23 de octubre. Transportistas se deslindan de paro.- Diversas organizaciones de transportistas se deslindaron de participar en el paro nacional del lunes 26 de octubre convocado por otros organismos del gremio. La Cámara Nacional del Autotransporte de Pasaje y Turismo (CANAPAT), señaló que no participará en la suspensión de actividades anunciada el viernes por la Cámara Nacional del Autotransporte de Carga (Canacar), la Federación Mexicana Americana de Transportistas (Fematrac), la Honorable Alianza Mexicana de Organización de Transportistas (HAMOTAC), y la Organización Integradora de Derechos Convencionales (Indeco).
