Why did globalisation transform the regions around Bombay and Shanghai in such different ways? While Shanghai became the dominant hub of the Lower Yangtze region, western India developed a more multicentric economy. 🔎 How was long-distance communication safeguarded in antiquity?
The Assyrians used an impressive system: they enclosed a clay dried tablet (the letter) in a sealed outer layer (the envelope) that guaranteed the integrity of communication across trade routes. Unauthorised access would destroy the unique seal impressions.
