It looks more independent communities are coming to the Atmosphere.
"Latinsky and Medsky, brought to you by [Blacksky's] Acorn system, coming VERY soon..."

EDIT: It looks like this account requires you to be logged in. Sorry about that!
The post also mentions that more updates will be shared by https://bsky.app/profile/latinsky.social and https://bsky.app/profile/medsky.network in the future.

I haven't really been able to join the roundtables, but I'm really enjoying filling out the surveys. The questions have been very thoughtful, and I can't wait for the Mastodon team to share what they've learned.
It looks like the surveys are still open, so go check them out!

Every now and then I like to remind people that one way to respond to the lack of alt text on images on here is to politely suggest text that can be copied.
You never know if the person posting the image is dealing with physical or other challenges preventing them from writing the alt text. And some apps make this harder than others.
One response to this that came up once or twice has been: then people will just be lazy and never do it themselves.
Well, back to my first point, it may not just be laziness.
But even then, so what? You'd be doing it for the people who rely on image descriptions, not them.

A few months ago I shared a guide on how to make a website in (about) five minutes with as little code as possible.
And if that's still too much code, here's a follow up with almost none.
Hope you'll enjoy!

I have recently created two tools for promoting your favorite fediverse communities. (And you can even use them together!)
The first one lets you create a customizable invitation page with your favorite apps and starter packs (collections will be supported soon!): https://stefanbohacek.com/project/fediverse-invitation/
And also the Join the Fediverse zine, with the last page allowing you to link to your custom invitation.
https://jointhefediverse.net/zine
Hope you will all find these useful!

One thing I really like about ATProto/Atmosphere is the concept of a PDS, or Personal Data Server, storing all your account data.
The other day someone announced https://bookhive.buzz, basically ATProto take on https://bookwyrm.social, but unlike Bookwyrm, which requires you to create a separate account, Bookhive lets you log in with your PDS, most commonly your Bluesky account.
That's actually pretty neat.
And we could have something similar with Federated Credential Management (FedCM).
https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/API/FedCM_API
Here's a GitHub issue requesting this for Mastodon:

For anyone looking for some recommendations, here are some accounts I run that are hosted on mastodon.social:

I have boosted a few requests recently from people looking to find good servers to join for their friends, organizations, etc. Exciting to see the interest!
But also, is it worth talking about the tools we have for finding/recommending servers?

Oh cool. If you're on mastodon.social, you get to try Collections already.

Experimenting a bit more with the Fediverse Invitation page based on lessons learned from https://communities.jointhefediverse.net.
Ideally, all the extra information would be included in the server metadata, but until then, maybe server admins interested in using this project can reach out and I can add it manually?
Eg, for mastodon.social: https://invite.jointhefediverse.net/?server=mastodon.social&apps=1,2,3,5
Data: https://github.com/stefanbohacek/fediverse-invite/blob/main/data/communities/mastodon.social.json

Hey fediverse, happy Monday!
In case you missed this, over the weekend I made a mini zine version of https://jointhefediverse.net.
You can print it here: https://jointhefediverse.net/zine
It's available in almost 30 languages, just like the website.
But I need your help translating the zine page itself!
Would you be interested?
