Teraz słynny pluszak „Rise”, który towarzyszył załodze niedawnej misji Artemis II, trafił do oficjalnego sklepu NASA. To świetny gadżet, na który stać każdego fana eksploracji kosmosu.

Od dziecięcego projektu na orbitę Księżyca

Projekt maskotki to dzieło 9-letniego Lucasa Ye z Kalifornii, który wygrał specjalny konkurs „Moon Mascot” zorganizowany przez agencję. Wygląd pluszaka bezpośrednio nawiązuje do słynnego zdjęcia „Earthrise” (Wschód Ziemi), uwiecznionego w 1968 roku przez załogę Apollo 8. „Rise” nosi na głowie charakterystyczną czapkę, która przypomina naszą planetę wyłaniającą się zza horyzontu Srebrnego Globu, a na daszku wyhaftowano gwiazdozbiór Oriona.

Dla załogi Artemis II nie był to tylko zwykły rekwizyt. Lot ten w wielu aspektach odzwierciedlał historyczną misję Apollo 8, dlatego motyw wschodzącej Ziemi został włączony nie tylko w formę maskotki, ale i w oficjalny naszywkę misji oraz wartości wyznawane przez załogę.

Czym różni się sklepowa replika od oryginału?

Oficjalna replika pluszaka została wyceniona na zaledwie 25 dolarów i można ją już zamawiać na stronie NASA Exchange. Trzeba jednak mieć świadomość, że do naszych domów trafi wersja z masowej, seryjnej produkcji. Oryginał, który 1 kwietnia poleciał w kosmos na pokładzie statku Orion, został uszyty ręcznie przez pracowników agencji, a użyto do tego specjalistycznych materiałów pochodzących prosto z laboratorium osłon termicznych NASA.

Kupiona w sklepie maskotka prawdopodobnie nie posiada również ukrytej kieszonki na spodzie. W egzemplarzu, który poleciał w kosmos, NASA ukryła tam kartę SD z zapisanymi nazwiskami ponad 5,6 miliona osób wspierających misję.

Od momentu startu Artemis II w sieci zaroiło się od nieoficjalnych i słabych jakościowo podróbek maskotki. Oficjalna dystrybucja ma ukrócić ten proceder, ale fani muszą uzbroić się w cierpliwość. Ze względu na harmonogramy produkcyjne, na wysyłkę zamówienia trzeba poczekać nawet do ośmiu tygodni. Zyski ze sprzedaży zasilą fundusz wspierający morale pracowników amerykańskiej agencji kosmicznej.

I prefer a stick-and-throttle over a touchscreen any day.

If I’m doing something where I’m so busy that I cannot stop and look down at my hands to fly, this is the biggest difference. I have to touch the screen, which means I have to look, because if I touch right next to that arrow, it doesn’t work. In Orion, I have a feel. I don’t have to look. I can focus on precision because I can look out the window the whole time. That’s the difference. So stick-and-throttle, or hand controllers, are vital depending on the type of tasks.

@NASA.gov has lots of short Artemis videos on their YouTube channel (@[email protected]), however this 10h10m video of the Artemis II lunar flyby appears to be the closest to a continuous long-form recording of the live stream during that period.

After almost 14 minutes of intro footage, this live recording has some amazing moments in context such as when the Integrity crew named the two craters on the moon, the forty minute “Loss of Signal” (LoS) as Integrity went behind the moon, came back out, then into a solar eclipse, and of course all the very efficient (and competent) communications between the astronauts and Mission Control (with video of both).

And quotes like Christina's “We do not leave Earth. We choose it.”

Lots of long durations of silence as well. Fitting for a recording of video from space. Also great for putting on in the background while working. The crew comms with control competency alone is inspiring.
