Join me for the highlight of the year, Retro Fest! It’s an incredible weekend packed with vintage computing, rare hardware, and the amazing retro community.

Before diving into the main event, we take a quick look back at my recent trips to Zapp! Live, a fantastic Commodore-focused event where I spotted a brilliant “Amiga in an Amiga” mini build, and then off to the Retro Collective Museum.

Once we hit the show floor at Retro Fest, the sheer variety of retro tech is staggering. We get up close with some truly fascinating machines and modifications, including:
• A 4G-connected OPL browsing Ceefax
• A vintage PERQ 2 graphical workstation from 1984
• A Victor 9000 business computer • A Sun SPARC industrial ATX board running inside a mid-2000s gaming PC case
• An incredible custom ZX Spectrum video chip upgrade capable of 848x480 resolution
• A beautifully engineered Z80 CP/M pocket calculator
• A 1958 Siemens T100 Telex machine operating on the modern i-Telex network

A massive thank you to Tony and Pete from Short Circuit for organizing such a stellar event, and to everyone who stopped to chat. Me faltaba probar la SVI-728 con el módem wifi y Retroterm. ¡Funciona perfecto! Tiene un teclado robusto pero demasiado tosco (me parece mejor el de la SVI-738 X'press) pero la calidad de video es muy buena, incluso mejor que otras máquinas MSX1.

Así quedó el setup de mi primera Amstrad, la CPC 464. Carga de juegos gracias al Maxduino de Diego De Franceschi, cable RGB-Scart y mod de audio gracias a Pablo Marcos. El setup se completa con un joystick 125, el libro de Atila Merino "Amstrad Eterno" y el artículo de tapa de Retro Gamer por los 40 años de la Amstrad CPC. 😍

I decided to set up a vintage gaming console that's turning 20 this year! It had just been collecting dust in my storage, but for today's RetroGaming Day, I felt like it was appropriate to dig it back out and see if it still works!

And it did! After some touching up (and de-dusting, most importantly) it actually spun up after all these years!

I played some of its – now admittedly quite archaic – games, and contrary to what I expected from gaming hardware this simplistic, it was actually kind of fun!

It's crazy the length people had to go to back in the day just to play a video game. It uses digital video disks (DVDs) to store software. I was only a toddler at the time, so I hardly remember these times…

I’m buying a grey ZX Spectrum +2 that’s been modified for composite video output, but my monitor only has VGA and my TV only has HDMI and component (tho composite works.

The seller says in their description:

"It is pretty much ready to go, all you need is (preferrably) CRT TV with either Composite Video or SCART inputs, then either Composite or SCART cable (can be purchased from UK in online shops - make you sure you ask for +2 grey model cable, as black model cables are incompatible), then you need audio cable, probably a joystick (with joystick interface, such as Kempston) and some games!"

But I’m confused about what exact cable/converter setup I actually need to at least see it on my PC monitor.

What’s the best option here? And what specific cable should I buy for the grey +2 itself? Preferably I would like to able to see it on a spare monitor I have that has VGA.

Or maybe I am overthinking it all ^^;;
