A Bridge to Wandesford Quay
Cork’s newest bridge is a new pedestrian or cycle bridge that spans the River Lee from Wandesford Quay to Lambley’s Lane. You’d be forgiven if you’re not familiar with either area, as they aren’t exactly the most trafficked areas in the city.
If you’re curious, Lambley’s Lane is off to the side of the old Beamish & Crawford brewery, and the bridge is worth a look at night. Henry shared a photo of the bridge a couple of days ago. Thank you, Henry, for pointing out where it was. I had no idea.
If you look carefully, you can see all the way down Tuckey Street to Oliver Plunkett Street. During the day, you might even see down to Parnell Place, maybe?

London’s #transport network has become more accessible, with new step-free routes opening at Surrey Quays Overground and Northolt Tube stations.
At Surrey Quays, a new entrance and ticket hall on Lower Road provide step-free access to both platforms via two lifts. The improvements also include an accessible toilet and baby-changing facilities, while a new footbridge and staircase will increase capacity and reduce congestion.
Northolt, on the Central line’s West Ruislip branch, is now the 95th Tube station with step-free access. A new lift and footbridge provide a step-free route from street level to the platform, with manual boarding ramps also available.
More than a third of Tube stations and over half of #London Overground stations are now step-free. All Elizabeth line and DLR stations and tram stops also offer step-free access, while all #TfL buses are wheelchair-accessible.

Bc Dan Quayle (former VP that couldn't spell "potato") is on the board of Cerberus Investments, which is allegedly buying Carvana loans in a non-opaque manner to shift debt around and prop up car-loan bond values.

Let the Good Times Flow (Eventually)
If you’ve been anywhere near Grand Parade in Cork lately, you’ll know the scene: hoarding, fencing, traffic cones, and that slightly bewildered look on everyone’s face as they try to work out which footpath is still open this week.
This is what it looked like 2 weeks ago when a sewerage pipe was laid across Nano Nagle Bridge to Sullivan’s Quay.
I found out that Uisce Éireann is working in the area:
Uisce Éireann is commencing works in the Grand Parade area of the city to make improvements to Cork City’s wastewater infrastructure.
The works will allow access for specialist contractors to the underground Pump Station located on Grand Parade, for removal of redundant equipment, cleaning of the pumping station and removal of historical debris. It will afford further opportunities to survey and inspect the existing structure and
will provide resilience for the continuation of critical wastewater infrastructure improvements within Cork City.Works are due to commence in January 2026.
The section of works will take place on a short section of Sullivans Quay, across Nano Nagle Bridge and along Grand Parade.
The works will be carried out on behalf of Uisce Éireann by Ward and Burke Construction Ltd. and are expected to be completed by mid-March 2026.
In February 2007 the Grand Parade was a construction site too. That was when the wide pavements were laid, along with the makeover of St. Patrick Street too.

From 8 February 2026, #Transport for #Ireland, the National Transport Authority and Dublin Bus will introduce amendments to #BusConnects Phase 7 routes 23, 24 and 80 following a review of performance and customer feedback. The routes have faced reliability issues since October due to congestion on new city centre alignments and driver availability pressures.
Routes 23 and 24 will be rerouted from Bridge Street, High Street and Christchurch to operate along the Quays, crossing the River Liffey at O’Connell Bridge before continuing to Merrion Square. The change is intended to improve reliability and restore access to the O’Connell Bridge area.
Route 80 will operate on an interim revised alignment via the Quays, O’Connell Bridge, College Green and Dame Street. In the longer term, routes 80 and 130 are expected to be combined into a single cross-city service in 2027.

Snagged one (1) #Filofax from 1987, less common Wellington which as name suggests is made from a rubber type material rather than #vinyl / #leather - when I saw it was red and black I had to get it as it matches the colour of my car - and I wanted it to store my car maintenance log / petrol diary (I'm keeping my Winchester for other day to day notes and plans as its been with me since 1992 when I got it at a reduced price from some random shop in Reading)
It came with 2004/2005 diaries, old Tube/Underground map (still showing Surrey Quays as Surrey Docks and missing the DLR!) and a ratty set of dividers, and needed a bit of cleaning

Holding Hands
Two hands intertwined, fingers gently clasped together as a couple watches the festivities unfold around them. The simple act of holding hands in public, something many take for granted, becomes a quiet celebration of love and belonging at Cork Pride.
While this year’s event was smaller than last year’s celebration (perhaps due to the absence of Eurovision star Bambie Thug, or simply the rising costs of travel), the energy remained undimmed. The parade began on Grand Parade before winding its way down St. Patrick Street, with dozens of people proudly carrying a massive pride flag that rippled in the hot, humid afternoon air.
After the parade, the community gathered at Kennedy Quay for the traditional after-party, where the real magic happened. Gay men danced together in the summer heat, some bare-chested, others waving colorful fans as they laughed and moved to the music. Same-sex couples like the one in this photograph stood hand in hand, watching the celebration with quiet contentment, expressing their love openly in a space where they felt safe to do so. These moments, the dancing, the hand-holding, the unguarded laughter, show exactly why Pride events are needed now more than ever.
The laughter, the energy, and the community were all so beautifully, defiantly joyful.
