I pulled off the bookshelf today my old (circa 1986) leather - but admittedly generic (from WHSmith) - version of the Filofax.
With the increasing backlash against the intrusions tech is imposing upon users and the growing interest by younger folks in simpler 'retro' equipment, daily communications and yes, even cursive, maybe its time enterprising companies released the little binder and 6-hole fillers for them again.
Calendars, notepads, maps, zipper pockets, etc.

Alas: black paint on the clasp still gets scratched up easily (weak point of #design, its always going to be metal on metal contact and #Filofax is shaken about in bags during travelling (especially on Britain's roads!).

I sanded and polished it to bare metal, other than black dot in the middle and paint on sides (other bit probably doesnt go all the way down into the hole), which fits in with brushed metal of slimline #fountainpen (a cheap Chinese one from a set of 3) in pen holder

I'm toying with the idea of swapping all my daily stuff into the Wellington rather than my somewhat battle scarred #leather Winchester, but that has some sentimental value as its been with me since early 1990s and on all sorts of adventures when I was a younger man with way more of an IRL social life!

Snagged one (1) #Filofax from 1987, less common Wellington which as name suggests is made from a rubber type material rather than #vinyl / #leather - when I saw it was red and black I had to get it as it matches the colour of my car - and I wanted it to store my car maintenance log / petrol diary (I'm keeping my Winchester for other day to day notes and plans as its been with me since 1992 when I got it at a reduced price from some random shop in Reading)

It came with 2004/2005 diaries, old Tube/Underground map (still showing Surrey Quays as Surrey Docks and missing the DLR!) and a ratty set of dividers, and needed a bit of cleaning

How have your friends shown you #kindness?

She held onto them until the next time we met up and gave them to me. It was so thoughtful as well as practical.”

I brought the #Lenovo #Thinkpad #T430 (that I used before I got the P50 on the right hand side of the photo with the #Filofax and pen case on top) back to the office reformatted it and installed Win11 with Rufus and created a more "minimal" user profile (with fewer directories downloaded from Onedrive and Dropbox) for myself to use with #VCDS (the P50 is bulky when working on the car with limited room inside, it does not sit well on the front seat and is awkward to use, and VCDS doesn't need a particularly large screen.

I will add another user profile so the T430 can also be used as a standby machine in my office (such as when new staff do online training courses)

There has been 33 years between me getting the #Filofax and the #GolfGTI to go with it 😁

I am going to start using that Filofax again that I bought in 1992, and has been with me all these years, fed up with flaky Outlook, my personal email isn't on MS365 so I don't get the calendar anyway, I don't like using a mobile phone to take notes but don't always want to haul out one of my laptops..

@sinbad so many current UIs make no sense. Even to me, and I've been using tech for 40+ years. I remember being astounded when I saw Ceefax on my neighbour's tv for the first time. I live in fear of having to explain how to use am app or a website to anyone who doesn't use tech on a day to day basis. I even live on fear of explaining how to use something to me wife, because she gets so frustrated at the crappy designs people force on us. I'm going back to my #filofax.

Today's #cybercleanse #optout #toxictech challenge by @cyberlyra is a tough one. About 5 years ago, I aggressively #Degoogled after being asked how I liked the restaurant. I just came back ... I tried 'e' and 'Lineage', and own a #linux #PinePhone but sadly, some banking apps require genuine #Android. Thus: For #Bike tours and #detox I use my #Nokia; a #filofax #calendar, and a mechanical #seiko watch. Now try to put an appointment in my calendar or to reach me by #WhatsApp 😉.

I bought myself a new notebook for my Japanese learning. Was going to get a traditional A5 Filofax so that I could add and remove pages, but have you seen the price of them?!

I ended up getting a Filofax A5 Notebook in the Ryman sale. You can add and remove pages and can fold the cover back on itself.
