  1. (17) doing a 510 pound farmer carry. I was so amazed that I forgot to pan the camera

  2. #Sam (14) derived the quadratic formula with some help from #Ben (17) and I tonight. He was a good sport about pushing through despite his insistance that he isn't a math person

  3. (Watching last week's Invincible with #Ben (17) and #Sam (14))
Ben: why are all the galaxies in 2D maps?
Me: I watched a video on this it's interesting...
Sam: 🖐🏻 Stop right there. Discuss it after the show. I will get up and leave

  4. Last night, I got to show #Ben (17) the proof that the sin derivative is cos using the Taylor expansion of e^(ix). I only have a Math BS and I never did any Serious Math™, but this is one of my favorite proofs. Along with 2's complement math, it seems like some Secrets of the Universe shit.

It was really great to be there with Ben when it clicked for him

  5. I spent 1.5h with #Ben (17) and #Sam (14) trying to understand how this MtG sequence is finite, and we concluded that it is in fact infinite. As best as we can tell, Matt Parker doesn't understand how the battlefield stack works, so he just forgot that every astral dragon entering the battlefield that gets doubled has its doubles places onto the stack for further processing.

If you know MtG and can explain how this is finite, I'm very interested.

  6. I watched a video on the history of an old rock radio station (KSHE95), and the old men they interviewed were talking about FM as though it was new tech. I found this hilarious bc there are kids now that probably have never listened to terrestrial radio in their lives. #Ben (17) has, and I asked him if he knew about AM vs FM.

Ben: I didn't know there were different types of radio.
Me: what do you think the difference is?
Ben: it probably has to do with the properties of radio waves, so one probably changes the amplitude, and one probably changes the frequency.

I'm so proud that he's not only doing well in his physics classes, but that he can apply the knowledge directly

  7. #Ben (17) is paying his parking ticket, and he needed to know how to address a letter lol
