Fri. Aug. 21, 2026: Time for Some Creative Play

Hazy, sunny, pleasant
Happy Friday! We are almost to the weekend.
Yesterday wasn’t that hot, but with 91% humidity, it felt a bit oppressive.
The plants needed quite a bit of tending, so I did that, along with the regular morning chores. Tessa supervised, then settled in on the porch. I did some work for the author panel, I slogged through a bunch of email.
Most of the day was spent doing research and/or working on things and finding what I tried didn’t work. Which is fine. One would think it’s frustrating, but it was actually fun to go down a road and decide it didn’t serve a particular project and try something else. Because I wasn’t under a tight deadline for it, I had time to play. I enjoyed myself, even though there wasn’t much word count to show for it. But I can build on it today.
Cooked a simple dinner, read in the evening. Supported a friend who’s going through a difficult time as best I could.
The usual sleep for 2 hours, wake up, sleep again. Charlotte started fussing at 4, I moved to the sofa, slept until nearly 5:30. Morning routine was fine.
I have grocery shopping on this morning’s agenda, and then I’ll get back to work on some ghostwriting, some stuff for Boiler House, and the Llewellyn article. I’m planning for a quiet weekend – reading, reading the scripts for next week’s lit committee meeting, some writing, maybe some work on poetry for the October residency.
Tomorrow will be the 365th day of the morning free write sessions! Woo-hoo! When I started, I’d only committed to 90 days, and then it was “let’s see.” It’s a big help, and I refer back to the notebooks often in my work.
Have a great day, and we’ll catch up next week!

How quiet does it get out here at night?
Well, the last two nights I kept hearing some noise in the other room. After much tearing through cardboard boxes suspecting a mouse somehow got in there, I've just found the culprit: A small black bug was flailing around in a box of tape making those sounds with its legs.
Its amazing how ears adjust to a quiet environment. Now shut up, bugs, it's late.

My Kind of Traffic – Cycling Triathletes
Reading Time: < 1 minuteToday I grabbed a unique opportunity. Since the Triathlon de Nyon is taking place I went for a walk along the route. Initially I felt like doing something short. In the end I walked the 10-11km loop on foot. There are one or two bits that I missed due to human traffic and routes being closed but it went well.
The route is around 12km and there was a constant show of triathletes cycling by me yelling “to your right” or “to your left” to each other, not to me. I was careful never to be in their way. After a while it died down because they had finished their race, so I had a closed road to myself.
Of course, I didn’t take the entire road, I made sure to be well to the side so that if some lanterne rouge cyclists needed to get by they could, with ease.
It’s a shame that these roads aren’t closed to drivers more often. It’s nice when roads are given to runners, cyclists, and more. It’s nice when for a weekend cyclists get priority. We give too much space and importance to cars. Cycling is healthier.
This would be a nice walking and running route, if only parts of it could be made safe for people that are cycling and on foot. During normal times the road between Crassier and Eysins is too dangerous to be attractive. Today it was luxuriously quiet for a few minutes, when the races were over and the road had not been re-opened to cars once again.
The honeymoon is over.
Tomorrow it’s back to car saturated roads.

#Meditation puts thoughts into slow motion.
The #space does not move.
#Shiva is still.
The answers come from the #quiet.
Resolving #QEM gives space travel because there is no such thing as time travel since all time happens simultaneously. It's called Infinity. Booyah.

It's pretty much a given that any day will be filled with activity, noise, and bustle, but when we can start it slowly, quietly, with a healthy dose of calmness and peace, that sets the tone -- a very good one -- for the hours to follow.

What a quote:
»All of humanity’s problems stem from man’s inability to sit quietly in a room alone.«
