Tubefilter: YouTube now gets twice as much watch time on U.S. TVs as any other platform. “…in the August 2026 edition of The Gauge, YouTube had an especially strong showing. It claimed its biggest watch time share ever — 15.8% — as streaming platforms accounted for nearly half of the TV screen traffic recorded by Nielsen.”

🧵 … attempt number unknown and I got #macOS #Sequoia installed on that M2 #MacBook Air. I don't know exactly why it worked in the end. I re-formatted the volume a couple of times, unmounted it, restarted the machine, tried again and again and at some point it worked.
Coming from #KDE / #Linux, macOS is so hard to use… why can't I have two-finger-tap *and* bottom-right click as right mouse button? Why is it either / or?
On Linux, I can even have three-finger-tap as middle mouse button and I am using this all the time to open links in new tabs.
It's feels like macOS has cut off 3 fingers of my hand.
But anyways… I am one of the few solo entrepreneurs who keeps software package files in a NextCloud repo so that I can install exactly the right versions again on new machines.
Which is essential, because installing recent versions of remote controls to event tech hardware might trigger a chain of updates in outboard gear, and updates might bring failures, and this eventually might stop an entire live show…
-
🧵 … so I decided to trash #macOS #GoldenGate on that #MacBook Air M2 I bought used. I want to install #Sequoia, since this is the last version with a #Firewire stack to run my #RME #Fireface400.
Of course, this is a dead end. Sequioa is old, and sooner or later it will not run recent software any more. But actually I don' even need recent software. I just need to record with some old Ardour, run TotalMix, Dante Virtual Soundcard, Dante Controller, and QLab.
But be it as it may… it is not what users are supposed to do with their #Apple computer.
Users are supposed to spend another 1200€ for a recent RME audio interface, and then get like 300€ for a high end recording project, that involves microphones worth 3000€. A business that is rotten.
Second attempt at installing Sequoia. First one failed with the reason that it just failed somehow. Now failing again. I can recover Golden Gate or throw the Mac into the bin?!
I wish macOS was as easy to install as Ubuntu Linux is.

I recently produced a Standard Ebooks edition of W. H. Davies' "The Autobiography of a Super-Tramp." This book has inspired many since its publication in 1908, including George Bernard Shaw (who wrote the preface) and Christopher "Alexander Supertramp" McCandless ("Into the Wild").
My notes on why I worked to get this new, free ebook ready, and its continuing significance in the 21st century:

#Inktober 23: dapper. Nelson walks with a dapper step.
#Inktober2026 #naturist #nudist #naturism #nudism
Nelson refused to wear a neat, trim, smart outfit, and so I had to look up "dapper" for alternate meanings.it can also mean "lively and brisk” which put to mind the figure on the pedestrian crossing before he got replaced by the hunched plodding figure about 20 years ago (a sad day). So here is Nelson, walking like the original jaunty crossing man.

Happy Friday!
Steve Nelson's "Twonks" https://www.twonks.co.uk/ cartoons often give me a chuckle. This one is no exception.
To me it points out one of the mistakes we seem to be making with AI - are we asking it to do the right tasks, or are we asking it to do a poor job at the things people are better at? When the dust settles, I hope we're getting AI to work for us, not the other way around.

This morning's #workout #music is from Geraldine Fibbers doing a live set in 1996. Good enough sound and video to see how amazing Carla and crew were. This one is with Nels Cline on guitar. I have been a fan of Carla since Ethyl Meatplow first dropped. She hasn't, to my mind, put out anything that you should ignore. A true American treasure.

How does Reese Bros BBQ hold up inside Floore’s Country Store?
