I'm in Australia right now. I can boot my home PC via Wake On LAN to access my files if I have to. I placed a webcam in front of it so that I can verify that it actually does so.

It's weird seeing my computer 16.500 km away from me. It feels like my own little Mars mission. Especially with how SSH feels at 300-400 ms latency.

And yes, that's a drinking glass I forgot on my desk.

Sehr geil, nach dem gestrigen #WindowsUpdate ging nicht nur, wie bei jedem major H Update mein #WSL kaputt und sicher auch noch #WakeOnLan, nein, diesesmal hat es als Bonus noch die #Aktivierung verloren und behauptet, ich hätte neue Hardware und soll eine neue #Windows #Lizenz kaufen.

Started to implement a better personal-work split on my machines. Now I no longer keep a copy of my memex on my work machine, instead I keep my laptop on my desk and switch between them with #Deskflow . It's not ideal, I'd rather keep only one machine powered on, but I also don't want to risk my #privacy. I'll experiment with letting the laptop go to sleep and auto-reconnect when it wakes. Maybe Deskflow could send a #wakeOnLan packet?

The only winning move is to refuse to buy such shit!!

Ich habe ein J4205-ITX hier, da läuft #nixos drauf. Ich überlege ein Gehäuse mit ein paar Festplattensteckplätzen dafür zu kaufen.
Alternativ wäre ein NAS fertig zu kaufen.

Bedingungen: Ich hab verschieden große Festplatten: 2/4/8 TB liegen hier rum.
Ich will #nixos drauf laufen lassen können.
Und es muss natürlich möglichst wenig Strom verbrauchen.

Bei obigem Board hab ich #wakeonlan noch nicht hin bekommen, wäre aber nett.

Maintaining Wake-on-LAN on a dual-boot Windows 10 / Ubuntu 22.04LTS system is a hassle. So I went with a simple Fingerbot solution. Now I have Wake-on-Zigbee!

By default the system boots into Ubuntu which hosts an Ollama server and does some video compression jobs (I wanted to be able to start those remotely). I only use Windows for VR gaming when I'm physically in the room and therefore can select the correct partition at boot.

I cannot get #WakeOnLAN working reliably under #Linux

It is an #accessibility issue for me, I can't reach the power button on my desktop PC's case from my wheelchair and use automations on my phone and via HomePod to turn on my computer.

Yes, I *think* ethtool fixes it, but I'd need it to run flawlessly every time the machine shuts down, or delay the shutdown until it did.

This *just works* in Windows and I don't have to think about it.

The device in question is Realtek, 10EC:8125

What I would like is a kernel/module parameter that forcibly enables WOL.
