  1. #PhotoOfTheDay is of this Shackleton whiskey I purchased a few years back. Pretty tasty and I'm scared to think what it costs these days with whiskey prices. I'm glad I'm not a big consumer of the stuff!

  3. Off to Dundee today to see the new 3D model of the Endurance wreck and hear Mensun Bound's talk. Very much looking forward to meeting him, as it was his book 'The Ship Beneath the Ice' that started me on my own journey into the depths of Shackleton geekdom.

  7. Today we continued our Shackleton pilgrimage by visiting the graves of Harry 'Chippy' McNish - with its 'Mrs Chippy' statue - and (after some searching) that of Thomas Orde-Lees. Both members of Shackleton's team on the Endurance and, although neither of them liked each other very much, they were both laid to rest in Karori cemetery in Wellington. #Shackleton #Endurance #ChippyMcNish #MrsChippy #ThomasOrdeLees #KaroriCemetery #wellingtonnz

  9. **Why did Endurance sink?**

"_Endurance was not designed for compressive conditions in the Antarctic pack ice, but for easier conditions at the ice edge in the Arctic. The weakest part of its hull was the engine room area, which was not only larger than in other early Antarctic ships but also lacked beams to give strength against compression by ice._"

  10. More than 100 years after it was lost beneath the Antarctic ice, Sir Ernest Shackleton’s ship Endurance has been brought back into view with an extraordinary 3D digital scan. Found in 2022 nearly 3 kilometers beneath the Weddell Sea, the #wreck remains remarkably intact. High-resolution images now show dinner plates, a flare gun mentioned in crew journals, and a boot believed to belong to Frank Wild, #Shackleton ’s second-in-command. The scan, made from over 25,000 photos
