Next try.

Btw., das Video ist ganz nett zum Thema lokale Nutzung (Search Without Being Searched: youtube.com/watch?v=u6hZ7gkpSVU ; Guide: youtux.org/SearXNG:-Your-Gatew), aber erstmal reicht eine von searx.space

  4. If you search for "Trump pedophile video" on #DuckDuckGo it says the site is down. But searching for anything else works fine. It's rather suspicious... #Trump #pedophile #video #search #search_engines

  5. I feel like using Ecosia when you don't go to advertisements provided doesn't help the planet much more than, say, Startpage and might even be worse just because Ecosia gives you the ability to chat with OpenAI(Which also is negative for other reasons.). If anyone can help me to work through this, please do, I'll be very thankful!!!
    Some things to consider:
Ecosia uses energy provided by 100% renewable energy to show you the search results. Startpage does not to my knowledge.
Ecosia does have more data collection than Startpage which adds to the point of it being worse for the environment in my given scenario.
If any one of the companies are on Mastodon, they could respond, too.
    @ecosia and @StartpageSearch !!!

  8. I'm looking at non-AI driven search engines. Anyone have any pros or cons for Startpage?

Manticore Search

  10. @david_chisnall I wonder why are people so slow to catch on. We've have #DissociatedPress in 1970s en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dissocia and it lead to demise of #Usenet via too hard to defend against sporgeries... #LLMs are even harder to detect bullshit generators than that, and while #AI do have some use, they will totally destroy the playing field... You though that #Spam and inability of #search_engines to find useful content are bad already? It is but a dawn of new era of #enshittification 😭

    I miss github.com/gigablast/open-sour

No real info on what precipitated its vaporization earlier this year after so long valiantly serving the community:
    en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gigablas

I suspect it may have been somehow related to the fiasco with freenode and Crown Prince Andrew Lee, but that's a reach.

  12. @bravegpt @adam

Here's a little ditty that might interest a few folks out here in the Wild, Wild, #Fediverse...

    It's a Brave Search add on for your browser of choice - i.e., #Vivaldi, #Chromium, #Firefox, #Edge, #Brave, #Opera, and more (oddly enough, I didn't see #Kiwi on the list).

It's called #BraveGPT and after installing it whenever you choose to use #Brave_Search it includes a sidebar with your search results from #ChatGPT along with the regular #SERPs you expect.

    github.com/kudoai/bravegpt

It's pretty new, and there's also links to other projects like a similar facility for #DuckDuckGo too.

But there's another question that this raises for myself - what happened to userscripts and greasemonkey?

Lemme know what you think, k?

  13. CW: 700 Character Post, Search Engines, Searx, Plain Text Links

    @ya

    #search #search_engines #searx #foss

I included some links at the bottom of the this post.

The Searx instance I was thinking of was Searx dot-bar.

If you want to know more about Searx, I recommend you visit its main site and its GitHub repository.

Searx instances are sometimes run anonymously, but there are some that are run by organizations.

I think these two are trustworthy:

    1 The e Foundation's Searx instance
    2 Disroot's Searx instance

    Links:

A Searx instance I use with the "proxy" option:
    searx.bar

Searx's main site, which has a list of other Searx instances:
    searx.me

    Searx's GitHub repository:
    github.com/searx/searx

    The e Foundation's Searx instance:
    spot.ecloud.global

    Disroot's Searx instance:
