Hello #hackers & #usenet friends, I fixed the rss to usenet bot code https://git.sr.ht/~rek2/rek2_usenet_rss/commit/8625e1209f8aadec7f51b6e7a1bf20082b26b174 so now handles RSS and ATOM and an issue I had with RSS generated from mastodon tags like #hacking #hispagatos #hackers etc, now our newsgroups get the proper information from mastodon alerts and also added exploitdb to our exploits newsgroup hispagatos.hacking.exploits the usenet client is #usenet_reborn TUI #rust client you can find it on my sr.ht or crates.io Happy Hacking!!! #hackerculture

1/ Just because, here's my LSI-11 desktop - It works, they used much better capacitors in those days.

Way back when, the LSI-11 was often used to teach people Operating Systems and Compiler Design, and in my CS degree in 1986 we'd fiddle with MINIX on these things, and deal with re-writing different low-level UNIX things. Life was much easier with only 50 instructions to work with.

Haven't read the Atlantic yet, but you are right. My third day poking around on Mastodon (via newsie.social server started for journalism pros, profs, etc.), having flashbacks to my 1980s exploring #Usenet, #fidonet #BBSs, #CompuServe, #thewell, #BIX, #Delphi and more.

Very curious about whether the Federated model will get average-person friendly enough in apps, installation and navigation for my non-geek FB neighbor groups, powerful as a local newspaper.
