A 2nd possibility for celebrating the 30th anniversary of the original book about #Netizens, which is "#Netizens: On the #History and Impact of #Usenet and the #Internet" is a new book that would mainly gather articles not yet in print publications about the early history and development of #Usenet and the #Internet and the public interest future for their development. Some such articles have appeared in the #AmateurComputerist Newsletter over the years.

Next year 2027 will be the 30th anniversary of the Netizen book print edition which appeared on May 1 1997. Given the challenges in our times one person suggested republishing the original book with a new introduction as the first book was written as part of the fight against the privatization of the Internet and against the attack at the time against #Usenet. In a separate post I will refer to a different proposal for a 2nd #netizen book. #NetizenBook

I mean, I am old enough to remember #Usenet . There was no shortage of political discussion there. And no shortage of bigotry.
The very _least_ we could do is fight the well-documented bigotry here on the Fediverse in order to make it more welcoming for marginalized groups. I mean, what's the alternative?
Insisting that the Fediverse should be "nonpolitical", which only means "I am comfortable with the politics around here, and am happy to throw marginalized people who do not fit in under the bus"?

@gcvsa There are crazy and intolerant people on Usenet too (which does still operate). However for unmoderated groups no-one has the power to kick you off, and you can block the obnoxious people yourself.
