Unser Forschungsprojekt SOURCE hat mit vier herausragenden Partnerorganisationen gestartet! SOURCE steht für "Skalierbare, offene und umfassende Erkennung von Desinformationskampagnen im Web".

Das Ziel: eine frei zugängliche Datenbank potenzieller Desinformations-Artefakte zu entwickeln und bereitzustellen.

Spoiler Alert: Dabei kommt auch der #OWI ins Spiel. 🌐

Search for health information online and the results will be ranked by relevance. Are they trustworthy? Do they represent diverse viewpoints?

The TILDE team built a health search system on the #OWI that goes beyond relevance. It extracts medical entities from 200,000 health-related web pages, normalises them to clinical ontologies, and implements a hybrid search engine.

Zwei Initiativen, @openwebsearcheu und die #EuropeanSearchPerspektive (EUSP) wollen die digitale Unabhängigkeit Europas mit eigenen Suchindices stärken. Der offene Webindex #OWI steht bereits zur Verfügung, #STAAN von EUSP liegt für französische Inhalte vor.

Results from our Third-Party Partner project #OMMS are published!

What was it about?
Open a proprietary maps app, search for a restaurant, and you see opening hours, phone number, FAQ and photos.
Open an OpenStreetMap-based app and you see a name and a pin.

The gap is not in the map data – it's in the business information layer.

The project addressed this issue, using the #OWI to harvest structured data from websites linked to OpenStreetMap points of interest.

Fair wäre es doch wohl eher, nicht StVO-widrig zu parken, so dass Bußgelder aufgrund von OWi-Anzeigen nicht möglich werden?

💨 June went by in a haze & has been filled w/ exciting events! A highlight: #NGIForum2025 in Brussels

Our team presented a variety of talks & sessions, incl. a short portrayal of the #OWI + its relevance for #EuropeanWebSovereignty.

“Producing knowledge and making it accessible is the basis for free democratic societies. This is what we need to fight for!” stated Alexandra Geese in her policy perspective.

👉 Throwback to ISC High Performance 2025
In June, a group from our OpenWebSearch.eu tech team attended the International Super Computing conference #ISC2025 in Hamburg to share about the recently launched Open Web Index #OWI and its significance re European Web Sovereignty.
#ISC2025 marked the 40th anniversary of the world’s leading forum for advancing the application of high-performance computing in academia, government, and the private sector.

Auch das dürfte ein Thema sein bei der #ISC25 : die digitale Souveränität Europas angesichts der Lage in den #usa . Der offene Webindex #owi den @openwebsearcheu geschaffen hat und der seit 6. Juni eingesetzt wird, ist ein Schritt. Wie das LRZ hat das @CERN an dem Werk, die Grundlage für neue Suchdienste mitgearbeitet. Es beschreibt, was der OWI kann. @pteryx According to the #Wired article [1], companies that have signed long-term deals with Microsoft will maintain access for the time being: "the largest customers of the #Bing APIs will retain their access after August 11, while smaller developers that were less profitable for Microsoft to support are being cut off".

#DuckDuckGo is cited as one of the companies who will retain access. #Ecosia plans to switch to #OWI.

#Mojeek and #Brave have their own indexes.
