The First #RepairCafé in #BosniaAndHerzegovina
12 March 2026
"The first Repair Café has opened in #Bosnia and #Herzegovina! Anida and Nerman, the initiators of #RepairCaféMostar, are giving this region a sustainable boost. 'We want to remove the barriers caused by fear and a lack of resources,' they said.
"Around Christmas last year, we received the happy news that we could welcome Repair Café Mostar: the first Repair Café in the #WesternBalkans. Anida Čmanjčanin and Nerman Turkić, the initiators, enthusiastically report on the grand opening and their intentions for the future.
Tradition and innovation go hand in hand!
"Thanks to support from the Federal Ministry of Education and Science and Repair Café International, the initiative kicked off with a festive launch. A workshop marathon attracted over 45 participants, including primary and secondary school pupils, as well as university students. Under the guidance of local experts, they learned various repair skills. These included #BicycleMaintenance, repairing #HouseholdAppliances, #textile #upcycling and #3DPrinting to replace broken plastic parts."

"Hegseth’s legal fixer at the center of Pentagon’s new media restrictions
Tim Parlatore represented the defense secretary when he faced sexual assault allegations, and also counts alleged mobsters and President Donald Trump as former clients.
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s bid to impose sweeping restrictions on journalists’ ability to report at the Pentagon was orchestrated with advice from his longtime personal lawyer, whose role on Hegseth’s staff has troubled some defense officials.
Tim Parlatore’s dual status as a mid-ranking military officer and legal fixer for Hegseth has attracted scrutiny internally among other officials, some of whom are leery of the influence he wields, people familiar with the matter said. He was integral in shaping the new media restrictions set to take effect this week, according to people familiar with the matter and a draft of the policy obtained by The Washington Post.
The 21-page policy requires credentialed reporters who sign the document to acknowledge they understand Hegseth’s view that by requesting any information — including unclassified material — that has not been pre-approved for release by the Pentagon, they are 'soliciting or encouraging government employees to break the law.' Such action, the policy claims, 'falls outside the scope' of 'newsgathering activities' protected by federal law. Journalists who do not sign must leave the building by Wednesday evening."

Another Saturday; another #RepairCafe. Okay, so that's only true almost 50% of the time. Anyway, another 30 odd items through the door. No stats yet, but at least I have the pics.
I've decided to train up a deputy so that one day I'll actually have an exit strategy, as it would appear that I'm not immortal.
Who knew?

#Ireland - The rise of repair cafes: ‘It’s not sustainable to keep buying new stuff’
A resurgent repair culture has a bottom-up energy, but change is also coming from the top, with the EU’s Right to Repair Directiveby Sylvia Thompson
Mon Jan 20 2025 - 05:00"At repair cafes across the island of Ireland, volunteers fix small pieces of furniture, household electrical appliances and clothing at community venues for free. This movement, which started about 10 years ago – but stalled during the Covid-19 pandemic – is gathering pace again as a kickback against the perils of #overconsumption and as a response to #environmental and cost-of-living crises.
"Tomorrow afternoon, in an industrial unit in #Dublin12, a repair cafe will take place, a community event in which a group of volunteer fixers will repair everything from broken toasters, kettles, coffee machines and air fryers to garments needing new zips or buttons.
"The #DublinMakerRepairCafe in Unit 2B, Motor City, Kylemore Road, #Dublin 12, is one of a number of repair cafe gatherings held throughout the island. Volunteer #fixers also show up for repair events organised in "#CommunityCentres, #libraries and third-level colleges.
" 'I’d do a repair cafe every weekend if I had enough volunteers. I can’t meet the demand from libraries, county councils and community groups,' says Jeffrey Roe, a software and hardware engineer who also runs Tog Hackerspace, which hosts the D12 repair cafes four times a year.
"He says there are three types of people who turn up with broken items to be repaired for free at these community events.
" 'There are the environmentally conscious people who want to get things fixed rather than consume more valuable resources by purchasing new things,' says Roe. 'There are people who want things fixed for sentimental reasons – say a food mixer their mother used or a toy they played with that they want to give to their children. And then, there are the cost-conscious people who find the cost of getting something new too high.' "

'There are people who want things fixed for sentimental reasons – say a food mixer their mother used or a toy they played with that they want to give to their children. And then, there are the cost-conscious people who find the cost of getting something new too high.' "

#RoxburyNewJersey #RepairCafe coming in May
Feb 26, 2025 Updated Feb 27, 2025
ROXBURY TWP. - "It's time to pull out all those broken or neglected items out of the dark corners, so they can be fixed.
Thanks to a new partnership among the #RoxburyPublicLibrary, the Lake Hopatcong Foundation and Roxbury Township Recycling, Roxbury’s inaugural Repair Café on May 3 and October 18 will give the Roxbury community an awesome opportunity to bring in beloved items for free repairs."Right now the Repair organizers, spearheaded by Roxbury Public Library’s Sam Fellman, are looking to confirm volunteer '#fixers' available to help on May 3. Specifically, the Repair Café needs volunteers for: computers/electronics, jewelry, knife sharpening, toys and watches and clocks.
"'Sharing your skills to fix household items can help reduce waste and protect our #environment while passing along valuable #knowledge,' said Lake Hopatcong Foundation Education and Outreach Director Patrick Krudop. 'It’s a meaningful way to make a lasting impact.'"Anyone who is interested in knowing more or would like to help should complete this form or email [email protected] by March 14. Questions can also be directed to the Library at (973) 584-2400.
"'Once we confirm all the fixers, we will be able to announce to the public the different categories our Repair Café will offer,' said Fellman. 'We hope, with as many volunteers helping as possible, to offer a wide-variety of categories.'
"Repair Cafés are becoming increasingly popular within communities, often taking place in libraries, houses or worship, and community centers. Additional information about the May 3 event will be available once all fixers and categories are confirmed."

So Saturday was #RepairCafe Coventry. About average for August with 23 items coming to the session including our first ever honey extractor. This owner and the owner of a coffee machine that needed a new micro switch were exceedingly happy when they left with working items and this is the sort of thing that makes it all worth while. #fixers #fixed

Well, yesterday's #RepairCafe didn't quite go as expected. Three #fixers (including me) and one host turned up along with 17 visitors. We mashed our way through 12 of them but had to turn away the last few. One pressure washer taken away to get fixed offline.
It was a bit manic but we pushed through and ended up with a pretty good fix rate and some very happy customers.
We also had a woman complain that we didn't see everyone, but she also declined to volunteer with us when asked. Meh.
