Months ago, I mentioned that I was going to attempt to replace the battery on my Pixel phone. I did, and it was even worse than I expected it to be, but I came through the other side.

#TIL about "parts pairing" with #iPhone and even chainsaws from #iFixit at #FOSSY 2026 online stream. Screen and phone are cryptographically matched, so you can't get an aftermarket screen to fix the screen. You must buy an approved screen from #Apple or whoever makes the product. Interesting. And disappointing.

TIL A "Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 edition" opens differently to a "Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1". The later opens from the front unclipping the back to get to the battery.

The former unclips from the back. No need to pry out the LCD screen.

Oh well, the screen already was cracked and looks a bit worse for ware but if the 18€ replacement battery works, it can serve as MP3 player again XD

I've been using my iFixit precision bit kit for years to crack open phones, laptops, and random electronics that had no business being that hard to open. Today, completely out of nowhere, it finally clicked. The kits come in sets of 16, 32, or 64 bits. Not 15. Not 20. Not some "nice round number for humans."

16, 32, 64. As in literal computer bits.

Ich bin schon n Dreckspatz. Aber dass die Ladebuchse von meinem Handy alle 6 bis 8 Wochen sich zusetzt ist übertrieben. Naja. Sollte euer USB C Anschluss mechanisch verstopfen (hat noch Kontakt, man muss aber kräftig drücken. Klickt und hält nicht richtig), ich hab da was:
Nehmt n normalen hölzernen Zahnstocher, schnitzt den mit einem scharfen Messer (z.B. Cutter) an, dass er etwa halb so dick ist wie normal und ihr kommt super um alles rum und könnt das Zeug rausfummeln ohne was kaputt zu machen. Wer hat geht am Ende nochmal mit Druckluft durch. Eviola.
Bloß nicht mit Kontaktspray, da verklumpt alles und eure Buchse kriegt Zahnstein. #Reparieren #ifixit

Vor rund 10 Jahren hab ich für meine Verhältnisse viel Geld in die Hand genommen und so ein Hebelwerkzeug und so ein sehr großes #IFixit Bitset gekauft.

Ein Werkzeug das wirklich auch über die vielen Jahre immer mal wieder zum Einsatz kommt. Am Werkzeug ist eine Reparatur bisher nie gescheitert.

Es mag sein das andere Sets nur die Hälfte kosten, aber verglichen mit der Langlebigkeit und Güte, tritt der Preis in den Hintergrund.
