Got my car back from the shop with the fixed up paint job (defective Honda paint, post warranty).
It took a week longer than expected, and they initially had trouble with the adhesion, but the result is quite good and they stuck to the price quote.
Hope it holds through the winter. It's a small, older, gas-efficient, low-mileage vehicle, and it seems greener to keep it running than give more money to a car company… in the near term anyway.

Asked the manager of the little thrift store here if they had any BROKEN typewriters or sewing machines, and apparently it was amusing -- I explained to her that I was looking for broken stuff to FIX, not for anything working (but the woman understood, she said that's what her husband used to do).
Her: "I'm sorry we don't have any broken typewriters for you, said no one ever"
(I don't need any of those things, it's just fun fixing stuff. I guess I will just have to keep watching the curb 🤪 )

Sometimes the repairs need to be more than component deep… this powered mixer has not only vaporised part of the 5v line, but the electrolytic caps have vommed their guts out and etched away several traces. Applied a fix to the broken plastic margin set lever on the free IBM Selectric the other day. Brittle plastic, combined with careless person (cough, cough, me...) who managed to accidentally break the fragile plastic that keeps these in place. It turns out, the levers not easily found on eBay, and quite expensive ($25!). So... opted for using hot glue to bind this onto the metal shaft. (I know, not perfect, but this is not a museum piece nor is it particularly rare and valuable). This is a purely functional fix. Plus, it makes no sense to buy a parts machine to cannibalize for this, because you will still have a nonfunctional machine when you are done! #ReduceRepairReuseRecycle #typewriter #repair

Ooh, interesting... from the video... curators like to fix "age" but not "use" issues! i.e. stuff that is purely aging, they will fix (ie color fading, paint flaking off). But stuff which is because an object was used a lot (paint worn off keys) they don't. That's an interesting approach to restorations, for sure. #ReduceRepairReuseRecycle

Old thatch from a friends (admittedly quite degraded) roof thatch repair.
Great for the compost heap!
Allows aeration & thatch straw is organic!
The sprays used by farmers on straw to prevent mould etc actually speed up its degredation when used on rooves.Helped my friend get rid of some of the waste and to me financial cost zero!

sta sera, con una inconmensurabile libidine, in meno di 1 minuto ho smontato un portatile vecchio di 15 anni con un avvitatore per mobili e punta a stella. Tutto viene via facilmente, senza bestemmiare, senza complicazioni, senza pistole ad aria calda.... che bei tempi erano.

@digitalrodent My parents were born in the twenties so they def had an understanding of how bad things can get. They were lucky in that Mom was on a flourishing farm and Pop was a railroad engineers kid who’s mom owned property & he had farm cousins so both had economic stability and no food scarcity. But they def let us know not to forget how to be resourceful & not wasteful. Pop learned how to darn a sock even though he didn’t need to and made us learn too. 😜 #ReduceRepairReuseRecycle

So far, subwoofer has:

5. not worked (currently).So, pulling the trigger on the new power cap, definitely it's the most likely issue with those symptoms. Capacitor prices have GONE THROUGH THE ROOF. I blame the Iran war, as tariffs are called out separately. 😬
(4700uf, 16v caps at 74 cents a piece, yeesh.)
Still worth it, of course, because of the value of a working one of these.

Left it on for 20 minutes, came back, tried again.... working again. Going to have to recap the power cap for sure, that's a sign the voltage isn't getting to where it needs to be before everything kicks in, IMHO. Main power cap is 2200uf, 200V... . markings say "2016" on it. So... #ReduceRepairReuseRecycle
