"Adult Classes & Workshops

Our classes and workshops offer fun, friendly, and accessible bike education to people 18 years old and up! Whether you’re interested in a seven-week bike repair course, or a one-time workshop, we have something for everyone!

Classes take place in the Bike Works Warehouse (3715 S Hudson St #111, Lower Level East Entrance, Seattle, WA 98118). Masks are encouraged to protect those most vulnerable in our community, but they are not required in our space.

Due to the high demand for class series, starting April 21st 2026 we are moving our registration system from open enrollment to a lottery system. Sign-up for the lottery will remain open for 2 days starting at 2pm, after which folks will be notified of the results. Recipients will have a week to register for the class, after which any unclaimed registrations will be returned to our reservation system to select other applicants. Applicants who do not receive a registration link will have increased odds for the next lottery signup, provided the signup information remains consistent between sign-ups.

We open registration for workshops and classes quarterly. If you do not see a registration button next to a class below, please check back later!

Our 2026 Season schedule will be posted this fall. We will offer two BR201, two BR101 (open enrollment), one BR101 (TWIG), and one BR101 (BIPOC).

Workshops are a great way to learn about your bike without committing to a seven-week bike repair course. Participants will focus on one topic, and should bring in their own (non-electric) bike. If you are unable to bring your bike, Bike Works is happy to provide one for you.

A limited selection of tools, replacement parts and accessories will be available for purchase at workshops, however, we might not have everything you need. Students are encouraged to bring in their own parts if they are looking to replace anything specific, or email their instructor beforehand. We will do our best to accommodate you and your bike!"

"The first Repair Café has opened in #Bosnia and #Herzegovina! Anida and Nerman, the initiators of #RepairCaféMostar, are giving this region a sustainable boost. 'We want to remove the barriers caused by fear and a lack of resources,' they said.

My nemesis of bicycle maintenance is the snap ring. Every time I have to deal with a snap ring it's a multi-day pain while I struggle with it and give up and then struggle again and eventually I get lucky and I get the snap ring on.

Advice on the internet is of the "draw the rest of the fucking owl" variety.

It’s going to rain from now until May, there’s no point pretending otherwise. So I admitted defeat and put the mudguards back on the two bikes that were still in their summer outfits. I also swapped the QR skewers on G’s bike for some hex ones from Halo Wheels. They’re sold on the security benefits but I’ve found they’ve eliminated an annoying intermittent disc rub too.

Found yet another aluminium road #mastobike abandoned by some uncaring person: all rusted, busted grip shifters, no tape, brake levers in bottom position, flat tyre, some broken spokes, bent rear dérailleur, etc. Dual-pivot caliper brakes though! 👌

Shop owner has no idea whose it was, so we claimed it. I cleaned it up, removed most of the rust. Could look decent. Weighs ~16kg. Wondering if I could easily convert it into a light single-speed for cheap? (new ones are 400$)

Last time I went out on my bike I noticed that the steering was a bit stiff. No problem, I thought, just needs loosening. Turned out the ~25 year old grease in the bearings had solidified. After a total dismantle and clean up it's now as smooth as a really smooth thing.

Finally found some time to work on my bicycle. Mounted and connected a new headlight (haven't tried in the dark yet), replaced the gear cable and housing (shifting is still a bit tough, but I can't remember if it was always like that or not), and finally gave it a quick wash. Can't wait to go for a ride, but I should get a rear light as well before giving bike commuting a shot.

I got some help in 3D printing a replacement chain guard for a bike I'm fixing up. I think the printing was cost-effective versus shipping-and-handling. It helped that this person was skilled enough to easily adjust as needed the parameterized model from thingiverse.
This bike is cleaning up nicely. Last thing to do is tighten the rear bearing cones to fix some play, and maybe check the grease while I'm at it.

Always wary of the newfangled, I don't ride tubeless. So patching punctures is still a thing for me and these Weldtite self-sealing patches have been great – until now. It seems they have a shelf life: the remaining unused ones have lost their stickiness and with it has gone the point of carrying them around with me in case of emergencies.

Any recommendations for patches – vulcanising or glueless – welcome.
