- they all follow Netanyahu
- they display a banner of the protests in Iran
These accounts will almost certainly be used to spread Israeli propaganda in the event of a war against Iran.They share, like and comment on each other creating fake engagements just like the 2008 uprising, but much more obvious and openly supporting Israel

I don't know it ISN'T legit, but I don't know if it is, and it's suspect. I'm just letting it sit for now until I have a more concrete feeling about it. If anybody has additional info, let me know.

Seit ein paar Wochen habe ich bei Whoville eine große Zahl an Fake-Registrier-Versuche. Am Tag teilweise zwischen 25 und 50. Sie alle haben gemeinsam, dass sie bei der Registrierungsüberprüfung mittels E-Mail hängenbleiben und sie in der Liste für "nicht verifizierte" Konten landen. Grund dafür: Die angegebenen Mail-Adressen (gmail, yahoo und ähnliche) existieren auch gar nicht.
Wenn ich dann den Zugriff für die IP (bzw. meist IP-Bereiche) auf meinen Hub sperre, ist mal für ein, vielleicht zwei Tage Ruhe, dann geht es mit anderen IP (-Bereichen) wieder los.
Nun hab ich aber auch keine Lust, jeden Tag neue Sperrlisten zu erstellen... nervt nämlich auch langsam.
Heute waren die ersten Versuche dabei, bei denen auch eine wirre Zeichenfolge im Textfeld "Warum wollen Sie diesem Hub beitreten?" vorhanden waren (vorher war das Feld leer). Deshalb bin ich mir nicht sicher, ob die neue "Maßnahme", nämlich das Umstellen auf eine sofortige Kanalerstellung schon bei Registrierung etwas bringt. Ich werde das beobachten.
Wenn der Mist nicht abreißt, werde ich wohl auf Einladungscodes umstellen.
Bei Klackerhub (Registrierung sogar ohne meine explizite Genehmigung möglich) habe ich das Problem übrigens nicht... und auch nicht bei Nomád...

Mastodon communities, be vigilant! Bad actors are creating accounts within the Fediverse and then using them to distribute malware. We identified one such case in which the threat actor had gone undetected since 2022. That Mastodon instance was one with a climate change focus. The threat actor was distributing an information stealer through their account.
We are happy to have helped the instance owner figure out why they have been on blocklists intermittently for the last few years, but also get that particular threat out of their Mastodon instance and safe for users.
There are undoubtedly many more of these across the Fediverse. Hopefully more awareness can get them detected and shut down faster.
For our fellow security nerds... this was #vidar malware with sha256 975932eeda7cc3feea07bc1f8576e1e73e4e001c6fe477c8df7272ee2e0ba20d
and a c2 IP 78[.]47[.]227[.]68 from the instance.
there is still at least one more Mastodon instance impacted that we are trying to reach.

Made no posts, linked no friends, just Bookmarked secondhand stuff. And contacted a seller.
Account lasted a day before it was #SuspendedByFacebook.
Looks like they're using AI to try and stop #BotAccounts and #FakeAccounts.
And they're unable to distinguish between fake and genuine.

I have taken the option of vetting all follow requests. Too many bad experiences from fake accounts on Instagram, I guess. It's been useful here. Some obvious bots. But I HATE it when there's a newish account that you can't TELL for certain if it's a legit noob or a bot. Had one sitting untouched in my notification for about a week now. Pretty sure that it's a bit, but not TOTALLY certain, so they exist in nondeterministic limbo.
