  1. Old Reddit is making people log in now to use that platform.

Let's get it clear, when they all force you to log in, they get your email, perhaps phone number, and other information they can sell.

Almost every platform forces you to make an account. And I see this as a "precursor" to the age (ID) verification that came after.

I rant about this pet peeve of mine below:

  5. SerpApi faces revived Google scraping claims built on Reddit licensing terms: Amended 15-page filing landed on day 21 of a 21-day window and names Reddit as the partner that asked Google to block scrapers. 6. @frogzone Oh I think there are a few reasons why many people aren’t on the #Fediverse yet.

The most common reason is that most people aren’t on the #Fediverse. It doesn’t have critical mass. The whole point of social media, really, is to talk with other people, so if there aren’t many people to talk to, much of the appeal is lost.

It’s also not convenient. when you can just use #Reddit or #X, most would just do that rather than learn how to use the #Fediverse and/or creat a social media website.

The #Fediverse makes the most sense for members of specific communities and their members. Nobody is really going to join #Mastodon just to join #Mastodon.

Over time, though, people will find use cases that make sense, the technology will improve, and I do think that the #Fediverse can grow. But that growth can’t be rushed.

  8. I guess a lot of you already saw the news that old.reddit.com was about to require account registration. This hit me just now, so I tinkered a little. Turns out if you access www.reddit.com with a multireddit link you still get the old style. For instance this link still works.

    reddit.com/r/Python+linux/

And you can just add more subreddits to the link.

  9. Important compare & (lack of) contrast: my 2017 #reddit AMA. For ease of reading, check out @[email protected] which links to the whole thing too. I hate it when people say #genAI / #LLM are a new (and unforeseen) ballgame.

Rideau. Et probablement disparition des cryptos. 🎭

  15. "The AI bubble isn’t bursting. You idiots ARE the demand.

Everyone compares AI to the dot-com bubble while using AI every fucking day.

We ask it stupid questions, write emails and texts, summarize shit we don’t want to read, code, research, study, make spreadsheets, plan trips—the list keeps growing.

And that’s just us degenerates. Enterprises are plugging AI into customer service, coding, cybersecurity, data analysis, sales, marketing, and basically every workflow where humans stare at screens and move information around.
Here’s the part bears underestimate: a shitload of this usage is still free.

Millions of normies are getting accustomed to having something in their pocket that can explain, write, research, and analyze almost anything for $0.
What happens when free tiers shrink and the best AI costs $20-30/month?

You can refuse to pay, sure. But when everyone around you is researching, learning, writing, and working 2-5x faster with AI, you’re putting yourself at an intellectual and productivity disadvantage over $20.

Eventually AI stops feeling like Netflix and starts feeling like internet access. And when companies figure out how to fully monetize the billions of people they spent years getting hooked on free AI?
    Money printer go brrrr."
