Just going to say it, #Steamdeck with #logitech #K380 makes for a rather nice mobile device to get work done. #DeskTopMode is pretty smooth and after getting #nextcloud client working I can sync specific folders with @murena

I thought the small screen would be an issue but did a weekend train trip and was able to get a lot of writing done.Just need a way for the two to clip together

It's #Android in #DesktopMode, which is still a bit experimental. You need a display or monitor that supports DP Alt mode (essentially, receiving video via a USB-C cable).

Desktop Mode still experimental, but looks usable for basic tasks, from what people are reporting. Here's a longer video showing it:

It doesn't hurt to just try it out, if your monitor supports DP Alt Mode and you have a USB-C cable that supports it (or Thunderbolt), too.

Most regular cables won't do. If you recently bought a monitor that is capable of DP Alt Mode, have a look at the cables that came with it.

With #GrapheneOS announcing support for presumably more smartphones by #Motorola starting with with 2027 models, I can finally dream of getting a clamshell flip phone that combines good HW, a nice OS with a small form factor: #RazrUltra! 🎉🕺

However, with Google's new #desktopmode rolling out these days, it might probably worth to think about large folding phones like #RazrFold which might double as a notebook replacement using a BT keyboard & optional USB-C monitor connection. 🤔 It comes with more weight, size & a higher price tag. 🫣

My #Pixel8 will last a few more years anyway. It's more likely that the #OnePlus5 of my wife finally kicks the bucket so that she'll get the Pixel while I buy a Motorola.

Would you accept the downsides of the larger #Fold in order to replace your personal notebook? Would you be able to replace a #Linux desktop with an #Android? Well, at least there seems to be a native #Emacs for Android. Unsure if it'd provide same UX though.

All right, some progress in regards to #LineageOS 23.2 #DesktopMode on #Fairphone 4:
The latest build, lineage-23.2-20260218-nightly-FP4, now actually does display the desktop instead of just mirroring the phone display when connected to external monitor.

The prompt on phone still shows just Mirror and Dismiss options. Mirror, despite it's name, enables desktop mode, while Dismiss just keeps connected monitor unused.

Sadly, the External Display in Settings still doesn't offer "Extend" option.

Finally it is here: the NexPhone, a phone and a desktop computer at the same time. It runs Android 16 and MS Windows 11. While on Android, it turns into a full Linux desktop as soon as it connect to an external monitor. Wow 👏👏👏

I found the audio problem...

during docked mode I had entered desktop and turned off the sound for the game...I went back to desktop mode and turned it back on!

Which means no desktop mode on external monitor.

Acabo de descubrir la existencia de los #lapdocks y tengo claro que tenemos que quitarnos la idea de que los #smartphones son teléfonos y empezar a considerarlos computadoras de bolsillo, con todo lo que eso conlleva.

Para quien no lo sepa: si tu smartphone tiene puerto USB-C con salida de vídeo DisplayPort (DP Alt Mode), puedes conectarlo a uno de estos cacharros con forma de laptop y utilizarlo como si fuera una computadora de escritorio.

Ahora sí que tengo ganas de que #Android lance oficialmente su #DesktopMode. Los Android de Samsung, Motorola y otras distribuciones Linux ya cuentan con su propias adaptaciones de este sistema, pero estaría genial que fuese algo más normalizado.

It really feels surreal to go back using Desktop Mode from my current Android daily driver. I'm pretty sure that certain fruit brand will catch up later on. 🙈

Anyway, YouTube just released Create Beta app, so obviously I have to give it a try. I do have to download it from APKMirror since it's not officially available in my country right now.

I've gotten my hopes up the last couple updates, seeing code that would indicate improvements, but the actual practical experience has gotten WAY WORSE over the last two years.

Currently the only phone I have that can run an Android 14 beta, AND has video out, just did this using the desktop mode in Android dev settings.

Which is even more broken than the A13 desktop mode, which was already almost nonfunctional from the A12 mode.

I really WANT Google to give us a Pixel 8 with a proper desktop or tablet large screen mode, but I'm not getting my hopes up until we see the phone in action.
