How is competitiveness in the PET industry related to data? 🗂️ Quite a lot, actually.
Our friends at Pimcore have created a new landing page that explores why integrated product information is becoming a key success factor for PET and plastics manufacturers. 🧴
The page shows how a strong 'data DNA' can help companies reduce manual work, meet regulatory demands and build more scalable digital processes, from fragmented spreadsheets and certificates to connected product, material, production and sales data.
It's a great read for anyone working at the intersection of packaging, product data and digital transformation. 📈
Discover the full story here 🔗 https://t1p.de/ckzkf
And if you’re attending PETnology, you can also use the landing page to book a meeting with someone from the Pimcore team. 🫱🏾🫲🏽

It's so sad. With 📆 CalDAV we have a really nice open protocol for syncing events, todos and notes. The protocol, which is technically more of a file format (iCalendar) even supports quite complex reccurence rules and even things like recurring tasks.
Unfortunately, client (and server) applications usually only implement a subset of what's possible.
Know some good ones? Let me know!

@marlinz008 I thought about such an experiment as well with one very particular use-case: mobile capture.
I was using #Orgzly Revived which has its issues with larger Orgdown files and this overcomplicated sync cascade causing Syncthing conflicts all the time.
I was using it for read-only access to my Orgdown files + mobile capture in one inbox file.
Then I started with #Orgro in parallel just for the capture process so that I don't rely on Orgzly's ultra slow sync process to finish on each capture.
Since Orgro has very weird behavior with shared content (basically I wrote Elisp functions to fix the format for all different kinds of capture content types), I thought about vibe-coding my first Android app just for the capture process in a text file in the format I want.
Not high on my prio list. Let's see how that goes. #ClaudeCode is removing features or adding very annoying stuff so I might as well end up with no proper #AI to do this.

Data sovereignty means more than just data availability 🔐
It means
• Control over the data model
• Integration across systems
• Transparency throughout the product lifecycleOnly then can true digital sovereignty be achieved. We’ve summarised here why this is particularly relevant for PET manufacturers.

A rare example of somebody switching from #Emacs to #vim:
"I have officially retired from Emacs"
https://nullprogram.com/blog/2026/04/26/As a vim user myself, I can totally relate to the editing part of the experience. However, I can't agree on the rest as my Emacs is not just an editor: https://karl-voit.at/2015/10/23/Emacs-is-not-just-an-editor
and: https://karl-voit.at/2026/01/23/Emacs-vs-vim-Cargo-Folding-BikeHowever, we can be grateful that there are so many cool tools to choose from.

@ajayiyer No, that's perfectly fine.

@chiply @petrillic Unfortunately, the syntax #logseq is producing in Org-mode setting is far from being the same as how #Emacs is creating syntax elements: https://karl-voit.at/2024/01/28/logseq-from-org-pov/
Reading logseq files in Org-mode is probably fine. Modifying Org-mode generated/modified content in logseq most probably has some issues.
I've set up #logseq for my wife, now as logseq is going south (adding DB, losing org support, unclear future of file (sync) access,...) and I do have a medium-sized conversion problem with her data. 😞
It's better to start with #Orgmode right away: https://karl-voit.at/2020/01/20/start-using-orgmode/

Digital sovereignty isn’t just a buzzword ⚡️
Digital sovereignty often sounds like a political issue. For manufacturers in the PET industry, however, it’s a very practical question:
• Who controls my product data?
• Who can analyse it?
• Who decides on its structure? This question is becoming increasingly important, particularly when it comes to sustainability data. We’ve looked at why data sovereignty is becoming a competitive issue.

Digital sovereignty in the PET industry 🤖
Thinking about processes, data and systems as a wholeMany companies believe that all they need is the right software. However, data problems are rarely purely software-related. They are architectural problems. 🛠️
True data quality can only be achieved when processes and systems are considered together. This is why we prefer to talk about data architecture rather than tools. 📊

@kepano I was as transparent as possible about the LLM-character of that article - my first one, btw.
For an article that tries to help users of #Obsidian although I don't use it myself and although I already wrote an extensive separate article that should cover the basic premises, I do think the hour spent was quite adequate.
I took great care to come up with a decent prompt, checked the output to find indicators of hallucination and spent time to make the complex syntax work with my blog generating software.
The link you provided is helpful for a subset of the issues (comments and internal links only, as far as I see), thank you for that. 🙇
But other than that I would love to learn about the things the LLM got wrong because I doubt that all the rest is based on hallucination.
After all, it's a conceptual issue that relates to all tools using #Markdown in a non-trivial way.

@worldsendless @scottjenson My thoughts are actually dealing with way broader scope as you might think.
Why do we need file names and even #filesystems for user-land files?
Why do we need multiple "applications"?
And so forth.
So yes, while Scott and others try to improve the current situation with increments (which is very important!), I also think of leaving this local UI/UX optimum, throw lots of stuff away in order to reach a different optimum which is nearer to the global optimum.
See https://karl-voit.at/2017/02/10/evolution-of-systems/ and https://karl-voit.at/2018/08/25/deskop-metaphor/

What does data DNA really mean? 🧬
Many people talk about a ‘single source of truth’. But in practice, it’s about more than that. True data DNA means:
• a consistent data model.
• clear responsibilities.
• integrated product information.
• data under your own control. This is becoming increasingly important, particularly in the PET industry. Why? We explain this in our latest article.

@grulli @jkirk Well, most DM as well as Windows provide Win+left/right for that use-case AFAIR.
Furthermore: before dragging generic functionality to each application separately, I'd rather think of how to educate people.
After all: this feature also needs instructions and advertisements as it is not totally obvious.
Then there is the issue of having different UX for the same feature implemented in different application which results in much worse situation.
Similar effects: each app implementing "read later" or "simple todo list" and so forth.
This is a bad strategy IMO.

I find striking how much of a hype there is around concepts like "second brain", "zettelkasten", "networked note-taking", "PARA method", "Johnny Decimal", etc., and around note-taking apps such as Roam Research, Notion, Obsidian, and so on. So I found fascinating Kevin Baker's May 2024 take on them as "sandboxes for infinite varieties of avoidant labor".
Here's the relevant excerpt, shared without further comment:
"Incapacitating" is exactly how I would describe my relationship to computers, especially since the start of the pandemic. "Friction" for me looks like uncertainty, partial knowledge, ambiguity, disorder, or anxiety. The ecosystem of note taking software and influencers that has emerged since 2020 offer a great example of what I am talking about. Writing is a task which forces one to confront ambiguity, uncertainty, and one’s own limits directly, so it’s not surprising that a coterie of avoidance entrepreneurs sprung up around it. The goal of note taking systems, almost without exception, is to provide a smooth, frictionless environment for making connections between disparate topics. As your “second brain” develops, the ability—and indeed the desire—to create a dense latticework of connections increases. The problem for me, at least, is that I don’t find the work of making connections to be difficult. If anything, my “first brain” tends to overproduce these kinds of thoughts.
What it does provide, however, is a sandbox for infinite varieties of “avoidant labor.” If your writing anxiety focuses, like mine frequently does, on the possibility of “accidental plagiarism,” well, you can tend to your “zettlekasten,” and ensure that everything you ever highlighted is properly cited and tagged. If you have a more generic form of writing anxiety, why not spend a few hours linking your notes? In both cases, you have an act adjacent to writing, which relieves some of the tension of not writing but actively avoids the task itself.

PET-Verpackungen: Wie Excel-Listen Innovation verhindern 📋
🔗 https://t1p.de/r12zr

#Windows should become a little bit less shitty as it is:
#Microsoft finally makes a few concrete promises about #Windows11 improvements
https://www.osnews.com/story/144638/microsoft-finally-makes-a-few-concrete-promises-about-windows-11-improvements/Well, if you would like to avoid #operatingsystem (OS) #enshittification, I really recommend getting in touch to your local #FOSS community and run #Linux on your machine.
It's almost perfectly shit-free, you can update the whole OS as well as all(!) applications with one command any time YOU decide, it runs much faster (yes, even many Windows apps including most #games if you can invest some efforts here), doesn't require you to switch hardware after a couple of years, doesn't suck out any personal data of you, and doesn't force #AI slob onto you.
Not to mention the huge difference in #security.
Take back control yourself and #digitalSouvereignity will follow.

@marlinz #Informationretrieval is depending on the current task and situation.
Sometimes #navigation is the most efficient one, sometimes it's #search. (my #TagTrees are a combination of both) And then there is teleporting, bookmarks/favorites, ...
Unfortunately, most people don't have the knowledge and experience to use multiple methods and decide which method to choose in a specific situation. 😞

Yet another neat feature of my #orgmode #lazyblorg #staticwebsitegenerator: text snippets you can re-use all over your articles. ✂️
From in-line words to whole paragraphs or headings:

With #GrapheneOS announcing support for presumably more smartphones by #Motorola starting with with 2027 models, I can finally dream of getting a clamshell flip phone that combines good HW, a nice OS with a small form factor: #RazrUltra! 🎉🕺
However, with Google's new #desktopmode rolling out these days, it might probably worth to think about large folding phones like #RazrFold which might double as a notebook replacement using a BT keyboard & optional USB-C monitor connection. 🤔 It comes with more weight, size & a higher price tag. 🫣
My #Pixel8 will last a few more years anyway. It's more likely that the #OnePlus5 of my wife finally kicks the bucket so that she'll get the Pixel while I buy a Motorola.
Would you accept the downsides of the larger #Fold in order to replace your personal notebook? Would you be able to replace a #Linux desktop with an #Android? Well, at least there seems to be a native #Emacs for Android. Unsure if it'd provide same UX though.
