Kleinanzeigen hat still und heimlich KI-Funktionen aktiviert – ohne sichtbare Ankündigung, ohne aktive Zustimmung. Konversationen mit gewerblichen Verkäufern können analysiert werden, um KI-Antwortvorschläge zu verbessern. Datenschutzrechtlich fragwürdig, kommunikativ eine Frechheit.
Wer das abschalten will: Einstellungen → Datenschutz → KI-Tools → beide Optionen deaktivieren. Aber Vorsicht: In der App sind diese Optionen offenbar nicht vorhanden – man muss die Webversion nutzen. Zufall? Schwer zu glauben.
Opt-out statt Opt-in, versteckt im Einstellungsmenü, nur per Browser erreichbar. Genau so sieht es aus, wenn ein Unternehmen Nutzerdaten als Rohstoff betrachtet und Transparenz als lästiges Hindernis.

Tiens, un #darkpattern #web que je n'avais jamais remarqué jusqu'ici : le bandeau de #cookie s'affiche (avec le "Acceptez sans réfléchir" comme d'hab en bien gros, gras et coloré) et, 2s ensuite, le "Continuer sans accepter" (comme il se doit, en gris clair sur fond blanc, en tout petit et ailleurs dans le bandeau).

Neither Parker nor his lawyer, Chad Williamson, answered questions from PressProgress about the nature of the Centurion Project’s collaboration with 10xVotes. Parker, however, discussed the subject at length on a recent podcast.
“In my travels in the United States, I’ve met a lot of political organizers and I’ve talked to a lot of people, and I stumbled across this group out of Michigan called 10xVotes,” Parker told a podcast last month.
“I was massively impressed with what they’d done, and I wanted to bring that idea and that methodology to Alberta,” Parker explained. “For almost two years — it’ll be two years this fall — I’ve been working with them, talking with them, trying to build this out.”
“And the result is the Centurion Project.”

Drew Born, a Grand Rapids commercial real estate broker and the director of Voteatron, is a well-connected Republican activist who runs a group called Michigan Family Action and previously ran for chair of the Michigan GOP.
On social media, Born has promoted the Heritage Foundation’s “Project 2025” plan, posted photos of himself at Turning Point USA galas at Mar-a-Lago and advocated the annexation of the Canadian provinces of Alberta and Saskatchewan.

Huizenga and Hoekstra have a personal history, as well: Huizenga is an old donor to Hoekstra’s past congressional campaigns, and the two served as campaign chairs for Mitt Romney’s 2012 West Michigan leadership team. They also served as board members for the Netherland-America Foundation (Hoekstra was later appointed US ambassador to the Netherlands, where he was accused of foreign interference after hosting an event for a Dutch far-right political party).

10xVotes’ business model is somewhat murky. The app describes itself as a service provided for free in support of Michigan Republicans and does not charge its users subscription fees, yet it does not publicly solicit donations through its website or indicate who funds it.
“We raise our own money,” Lance Griffin, 10xVotes’ head of public affairs, explained in a presentation to one state GOP group last year. “We don’t ask for any donations, we’ve made this free and available to all of you, all the local county parties and the Michigan Republican party [to] access our website and our data.”
However it funds itself, the group appears to have significant funds at its disposal.
10xVotes was a corporate sponsor at the 2025 Michigan GOP convention (Hoekstra’s final event as party chair) and Parker claims the group spent another $50,000 sponsoring a VIP suite at a 2024 Tucker Carlson Live event in Grand Rapids.
According to Parker’s story, he was also personally responsible for persuading Tucker Carlson to endorse the 10xVotes app that night — and, in turn, perhaps also responsible for Trump’s election victory in Michigan.
“I used all of my political capital with Tucker to get them to endorse it on stage that night,” Parker told a podcast. “We tracked the results of that endorsement, that endorsement resulted in 86,000 people who were historically non-voters voting in that election … that’s almost the victory margin for Trump.”

(5/12) Specifically, LLMs benefit from dark patterns that “launder” the idea that a mind is on the other end of the screen. This obfuscates the intentions of AI companies while making invisible the labor of the people lower in the chain.
I don't think there's a “neutral” version of this, but I do think there are less bad versions of it, if LLMs are scoped for specific tasks.

J'écoute un podcast sur les IA... J'apprends le terme "sycophancy" pour designer la manière qu'ont ces outils de flatter leurs utilisateurs·trices en allant dans leur sens, en tentant de leur faire plaisir de manière de plus en plus subtile, quelle que soit la question posée.
La "sycophancy" c'est l'état de bien-être et de dépendance qu'induit cette manière de faire. Une accoutumance pour s'assurer de faire disparaître tout sens critique face à ces outils ?

Really hate that more and more dark pattern BS is packed into Turbotax every year.
Started my return and the only option shown is the recommended $150 filing “Start for Free” with a little “See other options” hiding below.
The placement and the phrasing had me confused for a sec and I actually started continuing on before I realized they threw me into an upsell first thing (instead of the same damn plan we’ve used for five years) and restarted.

If you click a hastag, you're taken to page summarizing content with that hashtag etc.
At the top is a prominent button labelled "Follow hashtag", which does what it says in one click.
There is no equivalent "Block" or "Filter out" functionality on this page. Instead, you have to copy the tag (or retype it later), go to Preferences, select Filters, then Add New Filter, then fill out a multi-input form, and then click Add Filter.
#Mastodon should make it as easy to filter specific things out of your feed as it does to follow those same specific things. The fact that the difference in effort here is so stark makes it feel like a dark design pattern - maybe even to the point of being abusive to the user.
There's also a different level of effort for following/muting-or-blocking a user. To follow, you can hover over their name in your feed, and there's a one-click button to follow them. But to block or mute them, you have to open a separate page for the user, and then click multiple things to actually complete the action.
"Create a suggestion issue in our repo!" - ya, I've done that a few times. Those requests appear to drop into the round file, unread and unresponded-to. It seems posting to Fedi gets better traction.

A horrible (and not unexpected) #darkPattern in Android's Google Photos app. When backup of photos is disabled the app shows a big button to enable sync, user have to change the toggle to change the button to keep the backups off.

Je n’aime pas que #MacOS réactive l’installation automatique des mises-à-jour de sécurité lors de l’installation de la dernière mise-à-jour.
Pas parce que je ne veut pas les installer, bien au contraire. J’encourage tous à garder vos systèmes à jour.
Mais parce que je veux être celui qui décide du moment où l’installation, et le redémarrage du système, est fait.
Car non, la réouverture des fenêtres automatique au redémarrage ne fonctionne pas si bien avec tout les programmes. #darkPattern
