[Note: something has now changed and clicking a hashtag brings up a context menu that *does* have a mute option. It didn't this morning! Dunno.]
Mastodon #peeve:
If you click a hastag, you're taken to page summarizing content with that hashtag etc.
At the top is a prominent button labelled "Follow hashtag", which does what it says in one click.
There is no equivalent "Block" or "Filter out" functionality on this page. Instead, you have to copy the tag (or retype it later), go to Preferences, select Filters, then Add New Filter, then fill out a multi-input form, and then click Add Filter.
#Mastodon should make it as easy to filter specific things out of your feed as it does to follow those same specific things. The fact that the difference in effort here is so stark makes it feel like a dark design pattern - maybe even to the point of being abusive to the user.
There's also a different level of effort for following/muting-or-blocking a user. To follow, you can hover over their name in your feed, and there's a one-click button to follow them. But to block or mute them, you have to open a separate page for the user, and then click multiple things to actually complete the action.
"Create a suggestion issue in our repo!" - ya, I've done that a few times. Those requests appear to drop into the round file, unread and unresponded-to. It seems posting to Fedi gets better traction.

There's a very old joke you use about someone being so dimwitted or befuddled that, if they managed to meander their way into a corner of the room, you would have to take them by the elbow and turn them around or they would never get out of it again.
I've made this joke about our own current house rabbit, George, who is None Too Bright.
And it occurs to me that a certain nation's head of state's office is, famously, round.
Edit: sorry, this was not intended to be posted as a reply to the post it's attached to. It appears to be a #MastoBug.

So, looking into this a bit more, it seems that it's because the language-filter settings only apply to public timelines - not your home/personal timeline.
Which sucks. I don't use public timelines; my personal timeline is enough of a firehose already, thank you very much. Which is why I wanted to filter out posts in languages I don't understand. These posts get into my timeline because lots of hashtags are used by posters in many different languages, even if the words they're based on are English (or whatever) words.
Looking in the #Mastodon repository, there are lots of bug reports / issues / feature requests for exactly what I was hoping for here. Some date back five years or more.
Given how badly this lack of filtering impacts a busy personal timeline, I'm kind of surprised there's been no action on any of these reports.

So quoting has arrived on my instance, and ... I'm not impressed with the UI choices made. Making the boost button now bring up a menu - a 2-item menu FFS - instead of just boosting is like a speedbump, constantly reminding me "Hey, this doesn't work with your workflow".
If it has to be a menu, can it least be on the "reply" button instead of the boost button? Seems more natural there anyway.

I’m needing a bit of help from the #Fediverse.
I just changed to my new CybersecKyle account (a more clear and branded approach) from the @beardedtechguy. For some reason, something is happening with the migration. @jerry and Claire on the Mastodon dev team are looking into it.
But for now, I am wanting to get my followers back. 😢
Boosts are welcome 🙏🏼

I've always meant to post this and it just keeps slipping my mind, because it's such a minor thing. But it is hugely annoying (Hey, #Mastodon folk, something easy to fix!).
If you open someone's profile because you want to see things they've posted, you'll think you're in luck, because it opens on the "Posts" category.
But you're not getting what you think you're getting. If the person is anything like me, they boost a lot more things than they post - and boosts appear in this "Posts" category, too.
What you want is the next category over, "Posts and replies". That will be only things they've posted, either as standalone posts or in response to others' posts.
So for posts, go to "Posts and Replies", not "Posts". And if that makes sense to you, I'm not sure we can be friends anymore 😉
