  1. Once more: what political party or #eu instance can I bother into making an easy website where you can submit #gdpr infringements, especially of the #deceptivepattern or #darkpattern type? The instance in #Belgium 's form is a slog and I'm unclear on whether they can act on international sites.

  2. Here's a #deceptivepattern or #darkpattern from #paypal. Don't want #cookies? Be sure to select some first or you won't be able to save your settings (clicking the X doesn't save your non-selection). Again, wish there was an easy way to report these #gdpr infringements.

  13. Is this #UX issue a #darkpattern #deceptivepattern? No! Don't assume malice before incompetence. The website for Pearson VUE testing centers, where people sometimes reschedule extremely stressful exams they want to be well prepared for, lets users successfully complete the rescheduling process online, and then doesn't actually reschedule them. Testees then show up on the wrong day, possibly with the original testing date passed, and they can't get a refund.

  22. The recent #UxCollective newsletter had a link for a user research report by #maze, which I wanted to download for my wife, because I have a "fake" #DuckDuckGo email.

I was expecting I could download it "for free" but have to give them my name, company I work at and my email.

A fucked up #DeceptivePattern because something is not for free when you're giving away private information. I want to write about this and ask you to send me your "best" examples of this pattern.

  27. @joelanman My favourite Youtube/Google #deceptivepattern: only way to log into a work Google account (even .gov.uk!) is redirecting via acount.youtube.com (so admins can't block YT), and by default that sends a notification to my personal iPad Youtube App (that has 0 work accounts set up, and where I don't log into YT).

  32. @drupalthoughts Re the "most trusted" PDF viewer, OMG, I'd entirely forgotten that Adobe tries to sneak in the McAfee security crap along with their "free" reader if you simply accept their defaults and click yes during their install. (which is what the GIF shows)

    That's a #DeceptivePattern all right!
