Bon, c’est quoi, la MAJ sur #ArchLinux qui a cassé #Thunar (le gestionnaire de fichiers de #XFCE) ???
Maintenant, quand j’affiche les fichiers cachés, je peux plus les masquer à nouveau sans que ça le fasse crasher (et le masquage n’est pas pris en compte) ! Je dois passer par l‘Éditeur de paramètres pour changer le réglage.
C’est arrivé cette semaine, puisque lundi dernier, ça le faisait pas.
Franchement, ces trucs qui se mettent soudainement à casser alors qu’on n’a rien fait de particulier, c’est gonflaaaannnt… 😤

Si usas Arch Linux con KDE Plasma, te tengo un dato 🔥: instala este "Elemento gráfico" (así se llaman las extensiones en KDE) y olvídate de abrir la terminal para revisar actualizaciones. ¡Te avisa solito cuando hay algo nuevo que instalar! 🐧⚙️

It's s been roughly 20 years since I've used #archlinux, and when it came time to finally distro hop away from void in my laptop (not my main machine anymore) I decided to give Arch in 2025 a try. I'll admit, I was influenced heavily by #quickshell #caelestiashell.

Holy shit is arch easy to install these days with the #archinstall script! Installing Caelestia-shell was also just another instill script. I was up and running within about 10-15 minutes.
It's pretty neat. Beautiful even. A small learning curve because I'd never used #hyperland before, but not that difficult. However, the arch philosophy or the "arch way" still remains the same. The system still requires the user to babysit config files and to read every change log etc. The likelihood that my system will break one-day with a `sudo pacman -Rns $(pacman -Qtdq)` is looming.
My main system these days is trusty Fedora Workstation on my desktop PC. I actually like gnome. If I'm going to use a fully integrated desktop environment it's going to be gnome. I'm tempted to jump ship now before I get to deep into arch. I don't need bleeding edge stuff anymore. And these days, I actually prefer flatpaks anyway. I must be getting old and boring.

Sorry #ArchLinux, but this time it's just not working out between us 😭
#WiFi is sort of working now, but it's incredibly slow, unlike anything I've ever experienced with your system. And #claws still isn't retrieving emails.
And then there's the flood of #gtk errors that I can't seem to fix.
Your installations used to always produce excellent results, providing a solid foundation for a clean system. But deterioration is a general trend these days.
So now I'm going to take on #Manjaro. At least it offers a decent starting point. I'll just have to painstakingly remove all the unwanted bloatware.
No, I really don't want to do that, but my time has become too precious for endless tinkering.

Tut mir leid #ArchLinux, aber diesmal haut es mit uns nicht hin 😭
#WLAN geht zwar inzwischen irgendwie, aber ist unbrauchbar langsam, wie ich das von dir nicht kenne. Trotzdem ruft #claws keine Mails ab.
Und dann die Flut von #gtk-Fehlern, die ich nicht lösen kann.
Früher führten deine Installationen immer zu vorzüglichen Ergebnissen, worauf sich ein sauberes System aufbauen ließ. Aber Verschlechterung ist ja ein allgemeiner Trend.
So werde ich nun den Kampf mit #Manjaro aufnehmen. Es bietet wenigstens eine gut funktionierende Basis. Den ganzen unerwünschten beigepackten Müll muss ich eben mühsam entfernen.
Nein, dazu habe ich überhaupt keine Lust, aber für nicht enden wollende Basteleien ist mir meine Zeit inzwischen zu kostbar geworden.
Schade … Puh, mir graut es vor Manjaro 😱

The #archlinux mirror of my ISP #netcologne is out of sync since around Christmas. Though the arch mirror status page shows it as healthy. I wonder if I should give them a call about this 😅

Is the #ArchLinux #redmine package just broken? Or am I being extra dumb? bundler/setup complains about pg version mismatch between Gemfile and Gemfile.local, and if comment out the line in Gemfile, then I get an error about it being unable to load json?

I am getting tired of running Arch Linux.
Stuff tends to break or stop working in weird ways. I have been running Arch for my personal stuff and MX Linux for work for the past year. Now that I've quit my job to take care of my health I started using MX Linux just to get stuff done, because things on Arch simply don't work.
I think I'm ultimately going to move entirely to MX Linux. Arch is bleeding edge, but I think I need something a bit more dull to ease the pain...

At the weekend I did something crazy. I reinstalled my server with #ArchLinux and I had to install drivers for my TBS6928SE DVB/S2 card. Unfortunately, I had to install the closed source drivers but these do not working with current #Linux #Kernel versions anymore. Therefore, I had to update the AUR package with the TBS drivers. Now, my #VDR is running on #Arch.

Utterly weird! 😮
Needed to briefly depart from #ArchLinux tower, to #Fedora #KDEPlasma lappy in another room. There, was using #Firefox & #Konsole, when suddenly realised the fan was roaring away. Glanced at my Conky, which showed culprit was `anydesk`, at ~27%+ cpu. Huh, i'm not using AD atm, nor did i launch it, so wtf?
Launched #systemmonitor to find & kill AD... but not visible there. 😮 Ran #htop in Konsole, saw several AD threads; all ignored my kills. 😮
Rebooted, ok now, but wtf? 🤷♀️

TL;DR: What is causing my X.org keymap to change unsolicited for, and how can I prevent it?
When I log in to my X.org based desktop environment on Linux a custom keymap is set from ~/.Xmodmap. This is all fine and dandy.
However, at odd times — perhaps every day or two — the keymap mutates into something else, that could be the default X.org keymap, and I have to run “xmodmap ~/.Xmodmap” to get back to where I want to be.
I haven't been able to correlate these events with anything, but of course systemd is always a strong contender for such anomalies…
Has anyone else experienced the same thing and found a way to prevent it?

Pro tip: running "pacman -Ss | grep installed" will get all installed packages with their repos if you use a distro that uses pacman, like Arch, or environments like MSys2.

While watching Brodie Robertson's reaction to LTT trying Linux again, I installed Void Linux. I picked the musl base live image and after install I had to manually install xfce and sum stuffs.
I'll be doing the stuff I've been doing in the cachyos vm here.

@c401mh3 #ArchLinux now reportedly censoring people who criticize #AgeVerification and one guy named Dylan Taylor who is pushing it everywhere - he is the one who pushed it to #systemd and he is also trying to push it to #ArchInstall ... Plus #ArchLinux forum moderators delete all posts related to age verification debate. I don't know what the fuck they are trying to achieve, but they are destroying their reputation in real time. A lot of Arch users are furious.
