Ifoten get told I'm good with #computers I'm not so sure.

Suddenly my computer stops responding. I can move the mouse, but when I click things, nothing happens. I figure I just ran out of memory and waited for the #linux kernel to kill the offending process. Nothing. Reboot. Nothing. Mild panic. Login via terminal, calling #htop. Looks fine. Reboot. Still "stuck". Start crawling through journalctl. Nothing catastrophic is happening here either. Trying to navigate the system by keyboard. That works! What the HELL is going on? Turning on and off the mouse. Connecting the mouse by cable instead of Bluetooth. Still nothing. Say whaaat? Then I give the mouse a good whack, and everything's back to normal.

Folks, don't trust me with your computers.

3 года прожил с 32GB оперы без #swap и не испытывал проблем. Всё изменилось когда решил собрать #firefox сборка выжрала всю оперативную память и система жёстко затормозила (хоть и не зависла) и получил ошибку.

А всему виной #rust который жрёт как не в себя. Сегодня собирал #librewolf и пришлось ограничиться 8 потоками и всё таки подключил #swap (но забыл изменить vm.swappiness = 0 поэтому на скрине #swap = 0).

По монитору максимальный жор оперы который зафиксировал 21GB (6 из которых занято было системой и браузером). И да, оно собралось :blob_excited:

Depuis que je suis sous #Linux #Mint, sur un ordi acheté récemment, je rencontre des "gels" de plusieurs secondes qui m'empêchent de faire quoi que ce soit.

J'ouvre LinkedIn ? Ça gèle quasi systématiquement. J'ouvre LibreOffice ? Ça gèle une fois sur deux. Teams, idem. OnlyOffice, idem.

J'essaie de surveiller ce qu'il se passe avec #htop, mais rien ne m'a sauté aux yeux pour le moment…

I think I understand:

Personally I blieve `htop` is great for checking processes, and `btop` to get "at a glance" dashboard you can put fullscreen on a screen.

I commented some syscalls in the Linux data collector and hmop now compiles and runs on Linux. I need to learn how to do on Linux the same I'm already doing on Unix, something to do with system clock handling.

hmop 0.0.1 pre-release

hmop is a process viewer inspired by htop. (haitch's mop / monitoring ops, instead of Hirsham's top)
This pre-release version has only builds and has only been tested on Mac, and only a Mac arm64 binary is provided at this time.

As you can see from the source code, work is being done to support Linux and Unices as well, which I intend to improve and test in the coming months. hmop is not nearly as feature-complete as htop at this time, but there's some aspects of hmop that make it nicer for remote terminal use, in portrait layout, regular keys instead of function keys, etc.

Besides, it wasn't meant to be a standalone program, it's meant to be a built-in viewer you can use in my (yet to be released) muxer/editor environment with bim and tbim, so development of hmop will remain a function of that umbrella development for the foreseeable future.

Instead of Hirsham's top (htop) this is an old tool called hmop (haitch's mop, or... monitoring ops... whatever)

Nothing too flashy here, the idea is to refactor it and make it one of tbim's Views, so you don't have to start a separate process with htop. hmop is not as feature-rich as htop, but it performs the same basic function. If somebody wants more, they can just open a Terminal view and run htop.

That way, tbim upon completion would integrate into a single CPU process, in a single shared memory space, and with a reduced number of ptys 80-90% of the core functions of:

• tmux
• vim
• htop
• tail / head / less

Would I just want #pstree maybe? i've mostly used GUI's for that sort of thing. i know PID/ pidof etc. type stuff, but less than tertiary... oh! hey Look! It's something shiny! Shine on.

where my found.txt will show result about processes, per my desired string appearing in something about that process (what #htop gives on "search")

#TIL: Filter in #htop (either via pressing F4 or via the commandline option "-F") can't do regular expressions, but the pipe character "|" can be used to separate multiple search terms. E.g. only showing processes which have `systemd` or `sd-pam` in their name works like this:

htop -F 'systemd|sd-pam'
