  1. @IncredibleLaser Interesting. Maybe this fixes the abyssmal performance our university Samba drive has when mounted under Linux - 10-20s load time to list folder contents. I have tried all the options, nothing helps. It seems to depend on the file browser as well, seems to be faster and unfortunately extremely slow.

  2. I am using #Thunar as my #filemanager and #Ghostty as my #terminal. One thing that bugs me is that clicking "open terminal here" in Thunar opens Ghostty in the default working directory instead. I just fixed this today by changing the command to `TERM_PROGRAM=dumb exo-open --working-directory %f --launch TerminalEmulator`, i.e., adding an environment variable `TERM_PROGRAM`. The value does not matter, but it has to have some value for exo-open to work. No idea why.

  3. After many more hours of testing and investigation on Saturday night, then three more hours last night to analyze and summarize that discussion's insights, here are my latest findings on the @gnome file manager's "slow cold-loading of the view's contents for folders with many files" performance issue :blobsweats:

    gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/nautilu
I has the potential to be as fast as Thunar.

I bet it would speed up all views, even search.

  4. I like being able to quickly rename files so that the stem (the part without the suffix/extension) matches the parent folder's name. This is handy when working on my sketch-a-day project that has folders containing images with the ISO YYYY-MM-DDDD dates on their names just like the folders, I then get to use other scripts to post automatically the images. I love that on XFCE's Thunar I can select a file and call my renaming script from a contextual menu!
