@dropbear42 @nix #Wire just decideded out of the blue to deny service to those using their old #wireapp. No warning; no explanation. Suddenly there is a blue screen saying “important upgrade”. This is not just an app upgrade. Then it tries to launch gplay even if the phone is degoogled. iow: “we’ve abandoned your AOS ver. Go buy new hardware right now if you want to continue your chats.”

Whilst Plasma 5.27.1 is nice in many respects, tiresomely it has now re-broken my Conkies' semi-transparency. Sigh.
KDE4 was good friends with Conky. Plasma5, for all its many otherwise fab aspects, has had a very tense relationship with Conky, & some dot-versions have been most unfriendly.

It's >7yrs since i last ran #Tumbleweed, but back then #Packman seemed all there was, other than ofc the myriad quality-unknown private project repos. I hope you get some good answers here!

Last night i watched a fab movie about a London lesbian+gay group supporting a Welsh coalmining village thru the 1984/5 coalminiing strike; "Pride". Such magnificent courage & spirit-nobility.
Yesterday apparently was International Trans Visibility Day. I'm not into #trans activism so didn't know about this b4hand.
I fully #transitioned 2004-2006, tried hard to make it 2007-2009, gave up as a lost cause & hence shut myself away, since 2010. A self-loathing coward. 😭

Utterly weird! 😮
Needed to briefly depart from #ArchLinux tower, to #Fedora #KDEPlasma lappy in another room. There, was using #Firefox & #Konsole, when suddenly realised the fan was roaring away. Glanced at my Conky, which showed culprit was `anydesk`, at ~27%+ cpu. Huh, i'm not using AD atm, nor did i launch it, so wtf?
Launched #systemmonitor to find & kill AD... but not visible there. 😮 Ran #htop in Konsole, saw several AD threads; all ignored my kills. 😮
Rebooted, ok now, but wtf? 🤷♀️

When i #transitioned, over fifteen years ago, there seemed not to be any particular national nor global politicisation of people like me, who merely hoped finally to find solace & peace living our truth. Yes ofc sadly we were often the butt of tacky jokes, & pulp movie/tv villain mis-characterisations, but not mass public vilification & hatred.
Naively i'd assumed things would slowly improve. Never did i imagine the contemporary horror. It's just so mean.

Just did a small batch of #ArchLinux updates, a couple of days after the bigger last lot that included lovely #KDEPlasma 5.27.0, logged out & toggled to tty2, used #needrestart to restart the various services sans-reboot, toggled back to #SDDM & logged back in, then before relaunching my #FirefoxNightly, #Goodvibes & #Thunderbird [all in #Firejail ofc] i took a moment to gaze contemplatively at my #Wayland desktop, & reflected for the umpteenth time; how GREAT is #FOSS!! 🎉

@DropBear Israelis especially the Eastern European variety latch to foreigners. Especially White foreigners. There’s a palpable desperation to be included in the club they’ve been kicked out of so violently.
I don’t know if that guy was one of them, but I’ve sat through many dinners where my partner who’s not Israeli nor Jewish was swarmed and campaigned for hours about how bad the Palestinians are and how peace loving Israelis are. They just cant help themselves from propaganda and disinformation.

This is such a weird thing to say considering most Israelis have a non European background, either North African, near eastern or Slavic. It’s not racism. It’s really an identity crisis mixed with self loathing. Ok… it’s racism too and orientalism… oy vey. The pathology is terminal.

My favourite Australian character trait is the willingness to jump in on a lie in order to trick someone (in good fun).
This is best shown by dropbears*, where any Aussie will happily join in on sharing how terrifying they are, how weird it is that no one outside Aus knows about them, the importance of eating vegemite as a deterrent, etc.
I love that my MPIC friends have gotten fully on board with this, happily rabbiting on about dropbears and their risks. It warms my heart and makes me feel like home!
* this is not to imply that dropbears are not real. Of course they are.

Clueless tourism is happening even in a small coastal town in NSW. Famed for its surfing beach, Gerringong, was touted as a beautiful spot, and specifically one street to vist by some Tiktok #Influencer maniac.Since then, every w/e, people come with change of clothes and vlogger gear to take vids of themselves in the street, in people’s front yards, some dorks even picnic on private front lawns, etc. The locals are getting so angry… these brain dead visitors don’t even spend money locally, they just make life miserable for the locals. I know some home owners in that street close up their houses and go elsewhere on w/e. It’s a curse.
