It is a simple text editor, it isn't overloaded with options, nor the concept of projects. Just a simple file.

The first release of White Noise Media Player is up! It's currently working
I finished porting Melody from Granite and libsoup2.4 to GTK 4 + libsoup3 + Adwaita.

12 hours of intensive work, a bit of tampering with my local LLM to automate repeated tasks, and my fork of Melody has finally started with no errors.
I decided to rename it because if a translation file hasn't been accepted to Melody 6 years ago, this complete rewrite to Gtk4 and Adwaita will never make it.
The new name? White Noise. It's not Melody, but it's soothing.

Learning Vala now, so that I can update it to Gtk4 and add a couple features I'm craving for.

@ct_Magazin es ist doch wie mit allem. Welcher Mensch braucht auch allen Ernstes alle zwei Jahre ein neues Handy, nur weil der Vertrag abläuft? Vor einigen Jahren konnte man gebrauchte Rechner kaum nutzen, aber die aktuelleren Geräte sind auch nach einiger Zeit im Einsatz noch zweite Hand prima zu gebrauchen. #windows ? Was ist das? 😅

Since I wiped my main workstation/gaming PC the other day in a bout of frustration with, well, everything, I’ve been having fun OS-hopping. I have a fallback workstation that I can use for work purposes and to get me by while I’m noodling around in my main rig. My initial intention was to run OpenBSD for a few weeks to see the state of things on the desktop (I have a few devices running OpenBSD but all headless) but I ran into a weird USB storage bug. Just to see if it’s a hardware thing or an OS thing, I tried FreeBSD 15 and it was even worse.

So, #Debian has a bit of a reputation on flimsy hardware support. You couldn't even install D12 on a Z8xxx series CPU without fiddling with it unless you wanted to end up with an unbootable system.
I happen to have next to me another "special" system, a Chromebox with an 8th-gen Intel CPU. Which have a notoriously heinous sound subsystem (there's a paid driver for Windows).
I've dropped #CachyOS, #Ubuntu, #Fedora, #ElementaryOS, #ZorinOS, #MXLinux, #Bazzite, #AlpineLinux, #SolusLinux, #VanillaOS, and a few more on this system.
NONE of them was able to correctly configure audio on this machine. Some would not even detect an audio sink, others would have an "Analog Audio" sink, but no HDMI. Others would have a "Dummy Output". Fedora even listed my network-connected AV Receiver as an audio sink (!), but not HDMI.
And then there's Debian 13... Which correctly outputs over HDMI **OUT OF THE BOX**...

I am just finishing up my latest Linux tutorial video. I spent the entire day working on it.
I am getting better at editing. My biggest goal of this video is to remove the "ums" and silent pauses. I am eternally greatful for Kdenlive. The more I learn to use it, the more I enjoy it. It is very accessible. I have a lot more respect for professional video editors. You can spend many hours getting it perfect.
One thing I am trying to remember as I continue this journey is from Hank Green, who popularized the 80% rule. Basically, perfect should not be the enemy of good. It might not be perfect by an "ai's" standards, but it is 100% human made and that is what counts. With that said, I learn something every time I make a video and I believe they are getting better.

1️⃣ Open Terminal and run:
nano ~/.config/gtk-4.0/gtk.css2️⃣ Paste this at the end:

}3️⃣ Save (Ctrl+O, Enter, Ctrl+X) and restart the dock: killall io.elementary.dock

#freesoftwareadvent Day 22: #elementaryos !!! It's the first linux os I tried and it currently runs on my mom's laptop. They've just come out with Elementary OS 8.1 and it looks like it's a fairly substantial release. The dock and the accessibility features look like they're especially welcome. Shout out to those who made it possible to also run it on Arm. It's going on a spare Raspberry Pi 5 right now. I'll report back to let you know how it runs.

My Minime ate lots of omega-3s with pastured lamb brains & salmon for lunch (I cook for her the best of the best), and this afternoon she installed 5 OSes on this #Thinkpad X280: Debian-Testing, #ElementaryOS, #Pop_OS a4, #Mint 22.1, and Haiku-nightly. With tomorrow's offal meal she should be able to start coding!

Just bought a 1 TB SSD to put 6 OSes on my #Thinkpad: Debian-Testing (#Gnome / #XFce), #Mint, #ElementaryOS, #POP_OS alpha, #Kubuntu or #Fedora KDE (haven't decided which one of the two), and if it works with it, #Haiku.
I'd normally install #FreeBSD too, but I don't see it working as well as a desktop.
I'll be booting them with #rEFInd instead of #grub (easier than dealing with its rather deprecated os-prober).

Ja mam obecnie #elementaryos i jestem bardzo zadowolony, ale oni nie wspierają oficjalnie upgrade'ów (da się robić ręcznie na własne ryzyko) i mnie to trochę wkurza.
A zbyt leniwy jestem, żeby rozkminiać np. #archlinux -

Depuis la sortie de Juno nous n'avons plus la possibilité d'avoir les icônes des applications tierces dans le Wingpanel (barre du haut). Une fonctionalité que certains et certaines regrettent.
@wolf117warrior propose sur le forum de la communauté francophone un petit tutoriel pour retrouver cette possibilité sous #elementary
