After hearing about LG's snooping around practices and non consensual audio recording it was time for drastic measurements. ❌

Can you hear your neighbour's LG TV? Because it can hear you.
If the microphone is "off," you have to be closer - but they can still do it.
It's all demonstrated in the documentary. They do this _on camera_.
So "don't plug it in hur hur" doesn't work. It only cuts out one node of _tens of millions_.
This isn't a problem that can be solved by being smarter than everyone else, because even if you _are_ smarter than everyone else, you're still smarter than _everyone else_, and _they're_ all plugging _their_ sets into the network. That is, after all, most likely _why_ they bought a smart TV. To do exactly that.
Like it or not, this requires _collective_ action.

I'm getting too many "hur hur hur don't plug it into the network" responses that miss the point.
That's fine for your set.
It's not fine for all the other tens of millions of sets around you, _which also listen to you_.
These sets spy on every network they can sense, wifi and LAN, including yours to one degree or another if you live next door. They build profiles and geolocate, even if you never owned one, even if you never shared a network with one.
And if you _did_ share a network with one of these sets, they have IDed every network device you have and started building profiles around them.

The complete pervasiveness of spying upon not just you and what you watch but _every person and every device around every set_ is genuinely staggering. And it gets worse if you use their apps, particularly the LG TV "network":

Bei solchen Fällen frage ich mich unweigerlich: Wieso wird sowas nicht von @bfdi untersucht? Dürfen solche Geräte in Deutschland überhaupt verkauft werden in dieser Form?
Ein Fernseher, der selbst im ausgeschalteten Zustand und ohne Netzwerkverbindung über Mikrophon Audio aufzeichnet dürfte in den seltensten Fällen auf "informed consent" also eine informierte Zustimmung des Nutzenden zurückzuführen sein.

Wie kann das „legal“ sein? Was sagt die #DSGVO dazu das unsere Elektrogeräte uns ausspionieren? Ihr glaubt doch nicht das das ein reines #SmartTV Problem ist? JEDES Gerät das „Smart“ ist oder irgendwie Internet Zugriff hat macht das. Es ist nur noch nicht überprüft, LG ist nur die am besten analysierte Firma im Moment. Ads and tracking have turned TVs into #privacy nightmares. Both are so widespread among smart TVs that I’ve written a guide for avoiding them. One recommendation in that guide is to use a computer monitor. But in recent years, monitors have become more capable of pushing ads and tracking users.
Without more straightforward approaches from vendors, such as easily comprehensible privacy policies and avoiding inappropriate ads, monitors are dangerously encroaching into smart-TV-like territory.
LG lost some trust after a recent report that some of its monitors installed McAfee pop-up ads onto connected computers. Since at least 2024, some of these displays installed an app, LG Monitor App Installer, onto connected computers under the cover of driver updates installed through #WindowsUpdate.
