LG podría vender su negocio de televisores a Hisense
Ejecutivos de LG viajaron a Beijing para reunirse con directivos de Hisense y discutir el futuro del negocio de televisores, incluyendo la posibilidad de una venta total. Sería el segundo gran retiro de LG del mercado de consumo masivo tras abandonar los smartphones en 2021, y reflejaría el avance imparable de las marcas chinas en el segmento.
LG podría estar a punto de cerrar uno de los capítulos más largos de su historia corporativa. Según el medio coreano EBN, la compañía discutió recientemente planes de reestructuración para su negocio de televisores con el gigante electrónico chino Hisense, incluyendo la posibilidad de una venta total. Ejecutivos de LG habrían viajado a Beijing y se reunido con altos directivos de Hisense para hablar sobre el futuro de la división. Ninguna de las dos empresas confirmó un acuerdo.
La magnitud histórica de lo que esto implicaría es difícil de exagerar. Las raíces televisivas de LG se remontan a 1966, cuando su predecesora GoldStar lanzó el primer televisor en blanco y negro de Corea. Si LG abandona el negocio de los televisores, pondría fin a casi 60 años de historia en la fabricación de pantallas.
El movimiento sigue una lógica que ya tiene precedente dentro de la propia empresa. En 2021, LG cerró su negocio de smartphones tras años de pérdidas, poniendo fin a líneas queridas como el LG Wing y la serie V. En ese momento, la compañía declaró que quería concentrarse en áreas más rentables como componentes para vehículos eléctricos, hogares inteligentes y robótica. Este último reporte sugiere que LG podría estar aplicando ahora la misma estrategia a su negocio de televisores.
El contexto competitivo explica en buena medida por qué este momento llegó. Sony también vendió recientemente una participación mayoritaria en su negocio de televisores a TCL, que junto con Hisense ganó terreno rápidamente gracias a precios agresivos y una calidad en alza. Según la firma de investigación de mercado Omdia, TCL y Hisense tienen actualmente cuotas globales de envíos de televisores del 14% y 12,5% respectivamente, ejerciendo una presión enorme sobre marcas como LG y Samsung.
Sin embargo, un eventual retiro de la fabricación de televisores no significaría necesariamente la desaparición de LG del ecosistema de entretenimiento en el hogar. EBN señala que LG podría orientarse hacia su plataforma webOS y los servicios de software para monitores, sistemas automotrices y pantallas inteligentes, en lugar de seguir fabricando televisores por su cuenta.
El patrón es claro: en un mercado donde los fabricantes chinos dominan el volumen con costos que las marcas coreanas y japonesas no pueden igualar, la respuesta parece ser ceder el hardware y apostar al software y los servicios como fuente de valor. Para los consumidores, la pregunta que quedará en el aire es si una pantalla LG fabricada por Hisense seguirá siendo, en lo que más importa, una pantalla LG.

It has to be a "Google TV" one because of its "dumb TV" mode you can enable and use it as just a fucking TV without online mode etc., and those two seem to be the ones with the best price/performance ratio for 65" - 75" screens.
In general I expect all Smart TV manufacturers to be steaming garbage, that's the only reason I even consider something like Xiaomi.
