oIf I disconnect from wifi on my samsung tv, making a #dumbtv , will the “smartbox” be just another tracking portal? I gather the crappy Sonos soundbar is also tracking, started long after purchasing the damn thing. Any way to turn the tracking off?

We need a smallish (32”) wall-mounted flat-screen TV that an elderly person can navigate. Ideally, set it to the one free-to-air channel he wants to watch, and have it stay there, not force him to navigate to it every time, no apps or ads to pop up unexpected messages.
If the On/Off and volume buttons are the only things he needs to use on the remote, that would be perfect.
Any recommendations?

@grumpygamer This is approaching Wonko The Sane levels. I'm planning to get a #DumbTV soon and just plug it into a media server over my LAN. The best way to control the content you're watching is to cut off all feeds from the outside world. BUY DVDS! If we all keep buying DVDs they'll stay profitable and perhaps they won't die.

Looking for 32” TV recommendations, simple unit for the kitchen built-in cabinet. Size limited!
2018 #Vizio went to shit with the last firmware update.
TCL Roku unit reviewed well, picked one up but the speakers are GARBAGE. Not really willing to pony up 1/2 again as much for a soundbar for it….
I like Samsung, but do I want to spend $220 on a 2018 unit? That’s all they have at this size.
LG? Hisense? Insignia? Don’t need fancy, don’t really need apps, just OTA antenna hookup and decent sound.
Ideas?
