@nixCraft I would reverse #1 (Increased Linux gaming ) and #2 (Apple's entry into the low end PC market with 0 forced AI). IMHO it's #MacBookNeo that's getting #Microsoft to #debloat #Windows11. Lots of people, including me as I wrote about in https://mathstodon.xyz/@nm/116213427926279044, are so fed up with #Windows that we're switching to #macOS. Thank you #Apple for #MacBook #Neo and maybe helping to make Windows a little saner.

I'm looking for a few contributors who can contribute to the Android Debloat List (ADL) project on a regular basis for the vendor/OEM of their choosing. Here are the requirements:
1. Must be able to contribute a few times per month
2. Must own a device from the vendor/oem
3. Must have a Matrix account (from any instance)
4. Expected to be able to use a text editor to edit JSON files
5. Expected to know how to navigate the GitHub website.

No other qualifications needed. I'll be responsible for mentoring the contributors through a Matrix group as well as GitHub. Initially, we shall start with all the interested individuals and gradually eliminate those who fail to maintain the requirements. Interested individuals are requested to send an email to [email protected] with GitHub and Matrix usernames with the subject line prefixed "ADL".

Does anyone know what #xiaomi packages are spyware on a poco F7 ultra ?

I've uninstalled some but many still remain. This is my second time I uninstall packages because last time I've removed at least one that I shouldn't.

I'm interested especially in the package that doesn't allow system packages to be updated from #aurora store - e.g android webview.

In case anyone is reading and trying to figure out how to remove Microsoft Edge from a fully updated Windows 11 install:

The guide listed below still works, but only once you downgrade Edge.

You can downgrade using winget. I used UniGetUI, which uses winget on the backend as well as other sources.

The version I tried is 124.0.2478.97. Going too far back gives an error.

After that you need to execute this tool from an elevated command line prompt:

./vivetool /enable /id:44353396

(The program is available here):

Reboot.

After that just add your country to the list of countries in the European Economic Area and mark them as eligible for uninstall. (See guide below, or the summary)

The dev tools for Android (adb) are really nice for uninstalling apps that cannot be removed from Settings > Apps. I just removed 23 locked pre-installed apps from my Samsung phone. More or less all of them have been disabled for ages, so it is clear that they are not needed.

Bixby and the AR emoji suite were a ton of apps on their own, and they're all gone now. I also got rid of all the Google apps I don't use and had blocked, like Maps, GMail and YouTube.

Having tried so many different gadgets and peripherals, nothing really beats the speed, flexibility and freedom of a simple timeless lightweight laptop.

Don't need an e-reader, tablet, stylus, 2-in-1 touch device, mechanical split keyboard etc and its liberating knowing I never will need one in future either.

I've noticed many of those kinds of devices are often full of lock-in too. That was actually the first nudge that put me on the path to shedding them all.
