After some AirPlay work I'm a bit surprised why AirPlay2 is just a streaming protocol and did not went in the direction of Chromecast and Spotify Connect.

You can still stream with the Chromecast Protocol locally. It would just need a local HTTP server and the receiver would pull from there instead of the sender pushing it down.

Does not sound like a big of a deal but that makes the sender very flexible since it can be everywhere and everyone.

So far, I've at least been able to get Gnome Network Displays to work. Mind you, it still did not see my TV's native miracast app as a video sink. I had to use the smartTV's built in windows 11 PC for this to work. It is still a bit buggy and laggy, but it'll do for now.
