  1. Darkness Pervades

As far as the eye can see, the
horizon is a thin wide line with
a funnel cloud eating the sky.

Ribbons of debris and dirt are
    disgorged into a revolving roar
with lightning bolted to its core.

There’s no safe place to run
while the storm circles the sun,
    siphoning out the remaining light.

In the hour our bodies call dawn
    only darkness pervades, and again
    more darkness invades everything.

    Utter darkness enfolds, and you’re
deaf with both ears ringing, and
the faint taste of charcoal lingering.

I take my wife and daughter by the
hand to huddle in the safe room
    until the thunderstorm withdraws.

As far as the eye can see, the ground,
horizon and sky are the color of sawdust
I hear nothing but my hammering heart.

  3. THE HEAVIEST RAINSTORM JUNE HAS EVER SEEN

Amid the sounds of falling rain pittering and pattering off the hood of my raincoat, off the balcony railing, off the umbrella I hold over his head as he opens up the grill, I hear in Thomas’ voice that he blames me.

It’s in the way he asks blankly for me to bring the serving tray close, no smile. His eyes pretending to look out towards the grisly sky, somewhere beyond the […]

  5. About to plant a few more #HopiBlueCorn plants in my gated home garden. I have four that are doing very well in the garden, but a couple have been struggling. I also have mini-cucumbers and summer squash and a couple more #CaveBean plants that are ready to go into the garden as well! And thanks to last night's #rainstorm, the #rainbarrels are full again.

  7. WildWords – Trembling Leaves

    It begins in obscurity,
in the graying of the light,
    when the lilac leaves tremble
    one by one,
    like tiny green drums
    kissed by wet hands.

    I watch them
    and know something of prayer:
    not certainty,
    not brightness,
not the approaching thunder of answer,
    but this—
    the dimming light,
    the damp touch,
    the fragile rhythm
    of what remains alive
    even when the whole world
    seems to fade
    at the edges.

    And I,
    quiet as the darkening earth,
    learn again
    that creation often prays
    before it weeps,

    that the body trembles
    before the sorrow comes,
    that even fear
can be a kind of listening

    when the world wans
    and the leaves begin
    their soft percussion
under the subtle caress of rain.

I must laugh, very hard right now.

  10. The rain is unforgiving, but my family still holds onto hope.
Your generosity brings light in the darkest of times.
We are forever grateful for your humanity.
We are now only £140 away from 50% of our goal.
All previous funds have already been used for our survival up to this point.
My mother is very ill and we have young children under our care.
    Please stay by our sides.

  12. On Monday the central and western parts of Kyōto city experienced record rainfall...about 102mm in 1 hour!

For the first time the teahouse pond overflowed, and the downpour was so intense it pushed water under the eaves into the waiting area🌬️⛈️😨

  15. Who was the brilliant genius #galacticbrain who parked his car in the lowest spot in the parking lot last night during a #rainstorm and woke up to a 5cm moat the next afternoon? Was it me? I bet it was me. (Hint: it was me)

My leather sneakers weren't tall enough. Had to go back and change into hiking boots and climb in thru the passenger side!

  17. I went outside to bring some rain-soaked container plants indoors. Instead of the scent of ozone that one usually smells after a thunderstorm, the air smelled like a campfire that had been doused by fire. Not good.
