  1. Wow, the #EnvironmentCanada #Weather forecasts have gotten incredibly unreliable. They are no longer able to predict whether it will rain in the next hour.

    weather.gc.ca/en/location/inde

Yesterday, they predicted no rain today. It rained in the morning. At around 10 a.m., the hourly forecast indicated it would stop at 11 a.m. It's almost noon and it's still raning; now they are saying it will stop by 3 p.m.

They ruined their excellent radar UI a bunch of years ago, and were promptly delisted by Google a short while later; search terms like "weather radar vancouver" stopped pointing to them as the top result or even first page.

  2. I wish, instead of messing around with the UI of the weather pages or colour coding alerts, #EnvironmentCanada would put their time and effort into actual new features ~ for example, #RainbowWarnings.

It seems we can predict these things.

The people should know if one is imminent.

  7. Hrmph, just noticed Environment Canada has a beta up of their new weather site design. It's prettier but also less immediately informative. Plus it feels kind of cluttered. I also definitely like the current site's large weather icons on daily forecast block over the list view version on the beta. On the other hand having air quality right up front is good.

Protecting an ocean of ice and snow

With international waters no longer (mostly) lawless thanks to the High Seas Treaty, the world can now protect parts of the open ocean. This is especially critical for the still (mostly) frozen central Arctic Ocean as melting sea ice increases shipping and other industrial activities.
